Spanky here...

K I know this has probly been answered but I'm finally making some parts in max and was wondering. how do you get a nice smooth surface between parts

Like I have the middle tail boom trying to line up with the rear end tail boom and even when they are lined up they don't look nice and smooth. they have a line in the smoothing.

How do I fix this? is it somthing about welding the parts together and then cutting them apart agian?

This could help: Merge the two parts in Max, then select all vertices and weld. After that detach one part from the other. I haven't tried it yet, but it might work.

This might help only partly. We all know smoothing is an evil thing...

Hmmm, how should I explain - this might not be the only (or the best) way to get 2 "detached" parts smooth. It might work good for fuse and wing stuff. This is just a front view, blue are the vertīs. If you detach an modell at the blue points you will get unsmooth edges - if you detach it at the red points the result should stay smooth. Might work.

Royo - I really don't know how MAX handles this, but when I weld 2 objects together (=welding the vertices together = make one vert out of 2 verts wich are in the same positon) and then detach one part I would end up with the same as before (2 verts in the same position) ? Not ?

Spanky here..

I think part of the problem is that the ends were caped on the cylinder i used. I will try tube later cause that would be better to use.
