I was thinking that it might make sense to have a rectangular map. For instance, if it was 60 miles long by 15 miles high, it would have the same area as a 30x30 map, and would allow missions to be flown across longer distances.Of course, it would give you less leeway on one axis. Has anybody tried a map which is 2x current size? Like 60 by 30? I know Brian made a very large terrain and it was a memory hog, but how about one that is just twice the size of our current ones? If this kind of stuff is doable, it might be worth it to add some length to the new Pacific terrain: it could all be water tiles (easier to model), and that would be pretty sweet to have some more room to fight in. charm IP: Logged |

Terrain doesn't have to be square, but it generally makes things easier to work with.IP: Logged |

oh, and did I forget to mention that on the Midway terrain, I'm using texture maps that are only 128x128 instead of 256x256, and let me tell ya, the FR has really shot up (Could also be due to a lack of polys in the tiles aswell ofcourse)IP: Logged | |
