AC3D Survey

If you have/do used/use AC3D I would like know...

1. Did it run?
2. What video card you had
3. What driver version you where using?
4. What version of windows you were using?
5. Do the background images appear?
6. Do textures appear in the orth windows
7. Did AC3d windows randomly not work?
8. What problems have you had?
9. Did you delete opengl32.dll in the AC3D?
10. If yes to 9, what open32.dll version are you using?

When I bought AC3D, it worked fine!
I was using a S3 Trio 3D/2X card and latest drivers on win98 SE
It was using microsoft's opengl32.dll ver 1.1

I upgraded to Voodoo 3 and since then background images crash AC3D windows appear blank, textures don't appear in the orth windows.

In desperation I pulled out the voodoo 3 card and stuck my old S3 back and now AC3D is back to normal, the 3dfx opengl library being the culprit.

I hope that we can work out what problems we are having with AC3D and give the results to Andy for fixing....

SPanky here..

I use a voodoo banshee

Using original drivers. don't know what # they are.

All i know is Andy should fix that damn thing.

Why is it that ONLY that messes up on my machine?

3ds max and OPS work just fine.

I have to run Elric, but I have a whole AC3D history!

Andy is very helpful, email him. All I can say right now is that he told me to get the latest drivers for my card. But I just bought my card, it just came out! I got the new drivers and it fixed all my trouble!

I still have many AC3D issues - some come and go. Right now background images no longer work! Ahhh! But I love that program

I used a Asus TNT card, and now an Elsa Erazor III TNT2 card. I am on windows98. Textures not appearing in ortho widows is a bug. Backgroun images worked for me for the last 6 months, now, out of the blue, it is dead! I changed NO hardware. There are many other bugs as well. When I have a sec I will post all my bugs, issues, and fixes here

AC3D has worked for me with Microsoft software OpenGL on a Trio 3D/2X and a
8MB Rendition Verite 2200. It would not
work with the Rendition hardware OpenGL drivers, I had to remove them by nuking the
appropriate .DLLs

Basically most video card OpenGL drivers
are incomplete and buggy. Just because
Max or whatever will run doesn't mean the
drivers are any good.

I would be very interested to know if
anyone has tried AC3D with a permedia 2 or 3
or a Matrox G200/G400 with recent drivers,
I wouldn't mind betting that it would work
fine on these cards because they have better
OpenGL drivers.

Spanky, the 3DFX OpenGL ICD is VERY wonky.

SV, have you installed any new games or software that could have messed with your drivers?

There may not be a lot Andy can do anyway,
I think a lot of the OpenGL stuff is in the
Tcl/TK libraries he uses, and he didn't write
those.

You really only have 3 choices,

1. don't use AC3D
2. remove hardware OpenGL drivers and use the
Microsoft software OpenGL
3. get a video card that has OpenGL drivers
that implement all OpenGL features properly.

Spanky here...

Well I tried using the microsoft GL drivers.

Still didn't work.

And I tried all kinds of them.

Sorry man If other programs work fine EXCEPT one. Then I have to blame the program.

Isn't it a work in progress? If so where is a new version?

Spanky,

the Microsoft OpenGL drivers can call 3D card vendor supplied drivers if they are installed, depends on how the drivers are implemented, so you might not be getting software OpenGL unless you deinstall the
3DFX OGL drivers or disable them somehow.

The Rendition OpenGL drivers worked like that, until I removed the rendition OGL .DLLs
(not actually called opengl32.dll)
from my system I could have as many copies
of the microsoft opengl32.dll files around
the place as I liked, I was still getting
the rendition hardware drivers via the
Microsoft .DLL

I use creative's 3.53 drivers on my riva tnt 16 and get very few probs in ac3d. sometimes te textures appear in ortho, sometimes they dont. sometimes in 3d but not in ortho, sometimes the other way around. I found that when texturing and you dont have texture in ortho window, after applying it and clicking in the texture square in ortho it will appear there. But seriously guys, that program has a mind of its own.

Thanks for all your advise, for the moment I'll stick to my S3 and I'll try the voodoo 3 minus 3dfx's opengl drivers at a later date.

Thanks,

Elric
