What would happen if you have a double
skinned terrain with a layer of water
polygons over a layer of land polygons?

Could this allow for moving ships?
Would the underlying land stop the ships
from sinking?

How would the ground collision code react?

could careful placement of collision points
and wheels get this working?

Another idea, could you place a bit of land
under a ship, give the ship inertia
properties, then it could sink if explosions,
impacts etc move it off the land polygon.

It's a cool idea, but i think it would make use render 2 terrains instead of one. Which i think would kill FPS dead.

Does the engine render a poly if its behind something, what if its invisible? Good ideas Hippie. Regarding a related question in an earlier thread, per MH the ocean has no depth, its just a series of flat polys.

Also remember that the ocean floor doesnt have to be textured. I like the idea of an ocean floor better than a tile inder the ship. (Unless you know of a way to put that same tile under a PBY )

Good idea ! I dont think this kill FPS rates in any way. The "land" below the water could be untextured - like Snickers said ! Might be also a way to get torpedos working ! I like SDOE - every day a new idea

oh, the sinking ship part.. mine sink.. but the moving ship part.. er.. mine dont... but... Stop!! Myheads going to explode...! OK, I want someone to put a hidden engine and prop in the Yamato.. but only that, don't give it any weight, lift or drag... make it a placeable aircraft, and see what happens when you move it on water as it is right now, a nice big hidden rudder for steering aswell please.

I wish I knew how to add these things myself, but I honestly dont.

Am I missin sumthin here with not knowing enough?
