It was very easy to add this to the B17G. Itīs pretty rough now, but it seems to work good. The crew leaves the plane when essential parts are gone (like wings or engines). I dont know if now more people can fly in one plane cause I cant test this with only one computer .

I would say we need new pilots. These are some ideas:

- the whole crew bails out, when I (the pilot) press a key

- they donīt go through the ground anymore

- chute opens - or not

- they should all be killable (needs some fixes on the planes), i.e. you could shoot out single gunners

- split the single "bodysit" object into arms and legs with dofs, so that you can see the gunner's arms moving etc. (?)

comments ?

looks very sweet, how are the FPS hit with all those chain smokers jumping at the same time?

good job laika! I also am wondering about the FPS with all of the added models. I guess one way to deal with it is to keep the models obhidden, and just show them when they bail. It would also be cool if you could set some kind of random delay, so they wouldn't all jump at the same time, but rather come out over the space of a few seconds.

Now, can you make it so the score is adjusted? If you get the whole plane you get the whole score. Each one that gets away costs you points. (Never happy are we? )

FPS rates - I actually work with pilot.sm files where the "bodysit"-object is hidden, so no change in the FPS when they are all in the plane. When they're out it might be better to make some low level detail lods for the chute and the so called "torso".

Delay - Hmm- they jump all at the same time now, only way I see is to use multiple pilot.sm files (crew sm files) with a different delay for each. Problem - I dont know how to "delay" a function. Maybe with a obKillDelay prop - don't know.

Score - A bit macabre to give pointīs for killed pilots/crew members, but maybe the obScore property works.

OK - everything seems possible, BUT if you want to see the Pe-2 before christmas it might be better if someone else cares about the pilots - or should I add them as a bonus to the beta-version of the Peschka

Question:

Is it possible to make dof's wich only bend, but never break (for a better behaviour of the pilots, now it looks as if they where dead for some days and completly stiff.

Bryan - is it possible to release a Version of OPS wich can handle pilot files, would make it much easier to work !

You know, the first SDOE pilots had legs and arms that wiggled! I guess they killed them because of frame rate issues...

Yes, you can make a spring DOF never break, just make it very bendable but give it a very high break amplitude that wil never be reached.

As for the visible crew members I did some experiments a while ago and found that each visible crew member it worth about 1.1 or so fps each on a base of about 20fps for the normal B17. Might be a different story on different systems. It probably depends alot on whether your video card is the slow link or the CPU.

Sorry - no time to pack it up, so no download. But you can build this on your own - should not take longer than 30 minutes

LOOKIN's SWEET! LAIAKA!

What needs to be packed up? don't you just need the B-17SM?

I'm on cable so you can send all the files to me, and I'll pack it up for you. Then I'll slap it up on the FS Hangar.

You would need the B17G.sm and the modified pilot .sm files. I would say its not good enough for a release yet - let us test if delay could work somehow and let us add some other fine things (like an obProb to the chute and maybe scores for the crew members (+x points if you kill them in the plane, -(minus) 100 if you kill them after bailout !). I got all hands full with work on the Pe (and mainly for my study), no time for pilot stuff now.

Laika, can you send them for testing?
If so please send the SM files and so I can play around with them while you are busy with the Peshka.

Thanks.
