So Roy, the DOS extender:

ftp://ftp.uni-bochum.de/pub/simtelnet/gnu/djgpp/v2misc/csdpmi4b.zip

Now, how do I get into this DOS mode? I am not a DOS guy

Thanks for looking into this, as Nat said, untile would be killer!

SV,

on startup of your computer hit F8 and select 'command prompt only'. You might also select the option not to boot to the win95 GUI if you're using 95 (this can be changed using TweakUI that came with MS's power-tools). If you don't like to fiddle with the settings of your computer - leave it.

The advantage of running under DOS is that you'll have more memory available, but since you said you had tons of RAM, well ...
If you're running the prog in DOS you'll have to use the tiles with the short names.

SV,

mea culpa, mea maxima culpa! I have goofed big time. Fixed the exe, and now you get it, packed with source-code and Dos-expander, from here:
http://www.mcnett.org/fst/users/pwuesten/untile04302000.ZIP

I hope it runs under windows if you have enough memory. If it exits with a message like 'Bitmap cration failed: XX x XX tiles' you probably don't have enough RAM free. try running the program in plain DOS.

Here's where I goofed again: The easy way to get to plain DOS is Start->Shut down->Restart in Dos mode

Spanky here..

Have fun in DOS man.
Its the shit if youi know how to use it.

An utter nightmare if you don't.

The GREAT thing about it is the computer ONLY does what you tell it to do. You don't have big brother windows ALWAYS looking over your shoulder trying to do stuff for ya.
God i hate that big brother.

He can suck my ass for all i care.

Yeah, I prefer doing some things in DOS rather than windows, because it's much faster. It's also much easier to program if you're using a compiler like GNU/DJGPP gcc.

I've never really gotten behind windows programming. I finally gave up when I saw that most of the small proggies I do don't need any windows GUI.

New untile-version: You can now specify tilewidth, and you can untile textures that are not square (e.g. airfield 7 in Africa is 6x8 tiles, tilewidth 128 pixels).

Get it here:
