How can I make parts of my plane like the cockpit, etc seperate .sm files that are referenced? Can OPStudio do this yet? I want to make the prop a seperate file so people can change it. I don't like the prop blur visible out the windshield but I'm sure alot of people are used to it. TS

You know you can change the look of the prop blur just by swapping out the propfast.tif file. The one for the Typhoon is a good one to try for a 3-blade prop, and, hmmm, can't remember where I stole it now, but the one on the F4U-4 is a good one for a 4-blade prop. Not too obtrusive, but still looks good in flight. You might also just be able to "lighten" the existing propfast.tif file to decrease the amount of blur visible. All you need to do there is substitute the .tif for the one there currently, and change it's name to whatever the name referenced in the .sm file is. As for a new .sm for cockpit, etc, don't be proud, steal! The Jug, for example, has a separate model that includes the engine/prop combo and another one for the cockpit. The Spit 9 and I think the Zero also have separate cockpit.sm files. Copy the model from one and paste it into your plane using OPS. Then you just swap/modify the parts as you would a new wing or fuselage. Not sure, but I think your prop model also has to include the engine, since the engine "targets" the prop as an output device, which you may not be able to do "across models." ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

The combination of the propeller transparency, canopy transparency and clouds is a killer under D3D.. I have a p3-650 and I get low fps with the 109s for this reason I think. I'd hate to lose FPS for a transparency overlay I'd just be setting to completely transparent anyways. TS IP: Logged |

Tailslide, Open OPS Open tent.sm (Very simple object)from structures Now open a new window of OPS Open your plane in the new one Cut the prop from your plane Switch to the other OPS with the tent Delete the tent Paste in your prop (you will not see it yet Save this file as "Prop.sm" in your planes directory You can reload it now and you should just see prop. Close the OPS with the new prop.sm in it. Go back to the OPS with your plane. On the menu bar go to Object / Insert Model /File Reference Select the new Prop.sm in your planes dir. Save your planes.sm That is it.
Well, I just did it so I could explain it. If this did not make any sense to you. I will just mail the plane with the prop I just made. ------------------ Raider 33rd~GS Raiders Site

Raider,Is this similar to the importing of objects for like the Yamoto. And can the same be done (stealing)from another ship? Thanks... Psi IP: Logged |

Slk.. yes it can be done this way, I took the gun platforms from the Akagi and put them on the Akizuki and then from there onto the Yamato.Open OPS, selevt the part you want to add to another ship, and copy it (ctrl c), then open the ship you want to put it on, select the part you are attaching it to (hull or other section) and paste it in (ctrl v), then all you have to do is position it correctly, and your done (unless you'veimported something with guns on it) this being the case, you should make sure that all the gun refs link up on the inserted part, i.e. the gunList lists the actual gun numbers as they will now be different, and that the gunInit have the correct gunName. ~Nat~ oh, just thinking, if you do it the other way as outlined by Raider, you will end up with some wierd view points when you try out the ship in a mission, I dunno why, but it never seemed to like me adding weapons that way.. .which was a shame, the advantages are massive! Just never worked, for guns the way to go is how I've outlined, unless someone knows how to stop viewpoints being scattered all over the terrain (I'd like to know if anyone has the answer) [This message has been edited by Nat (edited 04-25-2000).] IP: Logged |

Psi, You can copy and paste objects from one to another easily. What I was explaining was how to make an object a seperate .sm, Like the Cockpit.sm in some of the planes. ------------------ Raider 33rd~GS Raiders Site
