Hi!IŽm trying to make a new landing gear for the P38 and have imported some objects to make up the new gear. What happens then is ofcourse that the original DOF for the wheel ends up somewhere else than it is supposed to. I have tried to put the DOF back so it goes right through the new wheel, but the wheel just keeps wobbling around, I just donŽt seem to be precise enough when placing the DOF. Has anyone any idea/trick on how to get the DOF exactly in the middle of the wheel or is it just trial and error that will work? Hope you can help/Robert IP: Logged |

if you are using one of the newer versions of OPS you can use the DOF alignment tools, which are on the toolbar. Just select the Wheel and the DOF in question and press the origin tool, and then one of the Axis tools. This assumes that the wheel mesh is orientated around the cardinal axis, which most of them are anyway.IP: Logged |

Bryan! Thanks, I tried that but the wheel still wobbles around. "This assumes that the wheel mesh is orientated around the cardinal axis" Does that mean that the wheelŽs center has to have exactly the coordinates 0,0,0 in 3dStudioMax before I export it? IŽve read your tutorial on "setting the default position" of an object in Max, but unfortunately I didnŽt get that Maxscript thing to work. I have instead tried to manually center the objects before exporting them, I guess IŽll have to be more accurate than I have been. And then IŽll try your tip again. Thank you/Robert IP: Logged |

Robert, Actually it's very easy to do. Just take a known, working airplane in OPS, highlight a main wheel, export it as an OBJ file. Now go into 3DS Max and import that wheel. Then, import the wheel you are working with and then make sure it is lined up perfectly (the center of it) with the other wheel (overlaying each other). Now delete the first wheel (that you knew was properly placed) and save the remaining wheel. Now go into OPS, open up your model and import the wheel back into it's proper location. It should work fine now with no more wobbles. Hope this helps. IP: Logged |

Thanks Pete!IŽll keep that in mind. IŽve also found out (I think) another way to center things easily in Max before exporting them. I type in 0,0,0 as coordinates in the "Move"-toolŽs window (right click on the tool, if someone wonders how to bring that window up). Although this doesnŽt always actually put the center of the object over 0,0,0, it seems to work anyway. If I do this everything seems to end up in the right place in OPS after import. Thanks/Robert
