My son made a Naboo fighter (pictured below) using AC3D and he wants to put it in FS. I told him I didn't know how, and that he was supposed to make the craft piece by piece not all at once. But hey, you know kids.

If it can be done, and anyone has some spare time in the future, could someone get this Naboo flying in FS? Please.
Right now it is an AC3D .ac file. Untextured. He (we) doesn't know how to make the canopy clear. I don't even know how big it is. It could be the size of a fly for all I know.
I think I can export it to other formats, but I'm not sure. I know very little about how to use AC3D.

My son made this without plans or diagrams. Just from looking at one of his toys. He is quite amazing really. He's done a couple of ships using Aircraft Factory 99 and flew them in Combat flight simulator.

Thanks.

SPanky here..

Great stuff. If he can get his head around that maybe he can around the rest of the stuff.

Tell him to pick the whole plane and click on smooth. I want to see it all smoothed out.

Just wondering. How old is he?

Is this what you wanted Spanky? I went to AC3D and did what you said. My son is 14.

What do those black areas mean? Shading?

SPanky here.

hmm.. looks better except for the shading problems

I think he may have polys inside the fuse and ac3d shows them as a sharp edge.

If you delete those and join the peices together it could get rid of some.

Also has he tried under object. (you have to have it selected as object i thinkg)

optomize verts and then optomize surfaces.

Then tell him to go into info and hit refresh and let us know how many polys that is.

its looking cool but someone else will have to help ya with the shading. Thats really just a guess.

Thanks guys. I think that "oops" would be a good sound as well.

Spanky, check out this link. It's got free Star Wars 3D models that are incredible! They're mostly in 3ds format.

Especially the models by Harry Chang, although there are some that have broken links.

I'll port it in, but someone will have to thouroughly tweak it when I am done. Someone will have to do the 'pit since PM isn't out on DVD nor will it be any time soon.

Sorry, I don't have any time for any projects until after the semester is over (mid-May).

I've even had to sideline my work on the Corsair for the time being

Hi Dauntless851

Well done to your son, the Naboo looks great,I also would love to see her fly in FS.

Being a fan of both ww2 aircraft and scifi I think it would be good to have the choice between flying a spit and an x-wing fighter depending on how the mood takes me.

I have most of the latest space combat sims that are around at the moment, they all generally look good, but fail to provide a realistic sense of flight which FS does so well.

I have a project I,m working on myself at the moment, in AC3D.
There's a site where you can get starship schematics www.shipschematics.net I found the plans there for a colonial viper, of battlestar galactica fame.

Currently building a model of this with AC3D, and would really like to see her fly in FS.

Sadly though it's far to complicated a job for me to make it fly.
Credit where credit's due to all the guys who build planes and make them fly in the FS community.
Maybe one day the whole process of building and making craft fly will be simplified for the lay person.

Theres so many great looking scifi craft I would enjoy building, and I think FS would provide a good platform to experience what it would be like to fly them.

Glad to see there are like minded people out there, a day might come when I can take on a Klingon bird of prey in a spitfire, wow.

Their re-running space above and beyond over here, there's some really cool ships in that programme. There's an alien tri wing fighter called chiggy von richtoven, wow. He can cloak his fighter sneak up on unsuspecting foe and waste them before they know whats hit them.

I love the way the craft in that programme can change direction during flight. Even flying backwards and getting off shots facing the oppostite direction to flight.

I can dream, one day those clever guys out there will make it so.

You were questioning the scale of the Naboo, I read somewhere that the squares on the grid in AC3D are about equal to approx one square foot each in Open plane studio.

Could you guys imagine flying the snow speeders with some AT-ATs tromping about? Boy that would kick some major ass.

I wouldn't mind picking this project up Tell you what, If nobody takes it within a month, I'll give her a go (Just remind me).

As for the cockpit, Since he already has the glass set with it's own color, just find the color he used (in the lower left corner) and right click on the color. Click edit. Move the transparency slider (very bottom left of the pop-up window) aroud to get the right look. It should apply the changes in real time.

As for the shading, it hast to do with the order in which the vertexes/surface were created...... Smoothing is not one of AC3D's best trait

I love the Naboo fighter! And you son has done a GREAT job on it!
