Guys:

I'd like to modify the FM on my Nieuport to provide better performance from the rudder. Presently, when you release the rudder the aircraft yaws back towards the original flight path as before the rudder was activated.

A little of this is O.K. However, I want the flight correction from using the rudder to be more effective.

What changes should I look at on the flight model to achieve this??

Poke around the old postings, I beleive that an effort was made to add a hidden vericle stab to the body in an effort to remedy this. The problem isn't fickle, it afflicts most of the planes.

Spanky here...

BTW. Is the rudder modeling right in SDOE? I don't hear people complaning about it and I figure I would if it was wrong. Its seems weird to me. But maybe thats how it is.

Also there has to be a way to fix it without using invisible stuff. Thats a hack and people hate the hacks.

In general, the rudder should only rotate the axis of your plane away from the flight path as long as the rudder is held. Aerodynamic forces will streamline the plane again when the rudder is released.

If you hold the rudder long enough, the plane should also roll in that direction.

IMO the rudder is quite a bit too sensitive in SDOE (as it is in every flight sim) but other than that it's not too bad. It does "work" properly, it's just hard to get it to "feel" right.

Ok jedi. THanks for the info. It just feels like a rubberband all the time and just seems to spring back to the old heading without actually turning the plane at all.

Yep, Spanky. Thats just the effect that I want to tame! The one time I flew a plane (Piper Cub) I noticed a little bit of that rubberband effect but the Cub seemed to hold the rudder position better than I'm seeing in my Nieuport.
