Hi all!

I wonder if I'm still sane after having worked on the Ju 188 for several weeks now;-)
It's pretty much finished I think, but then I'm no FM-Guru and would like to get some input from you. Here are some pics:
Ju 188 F with FuG 200
The cockpit features a moving yoke:

There even is radar in the cockpit for the reconaissance version (notice the Radar-echo):

The Ju 188E carries torpedoes as an optional loadout:

Download the beta here, and remember to send some feedback. I do especially need some help with the Radar.

Real nice Peter. I love the moving control column. Took it for a short flight, and flew nicely so far. A working radar would be great to have too.

Any chance of a He-219 Uhu in the future?

Without comparing directly with real piccies, I would have to say that your model is closer than I could expect. (in plain English -awesome and very accurate)
Glad you tackled radar as well.
Cocpit looks schmick (awesome)

I only have Autocad 2000 and am desperately trying to get SDOE and 3d studio or whatever is used to model these planes.
If it is possible to export the 3d model to dxf or dwg extensions i would like to see how you modelled it.

Thanks for the compliments, guys :-)
Just to dampen the Radar-enthusiasm a little: The Radar-gauge is actually an AFN (at least that's what the instrument is called in OpenPlane). It points to the nearest airfield instead of the nearest ship. The working model for the AFN is pretty close to Radar, though, so I thought I'd use this until we get a real one (hopefully). Somebody bug MH with this ;-)

This is a great looking plane. Nice job Royohboy!

I threw togehter a real quick little mission last night just to watch it fly. I had 3 JU188's and a single Yak3. Everything was great for the first 8 or 10 minutes, then as I was flying the Yak through the clouds while chasing the 188's the Yak's cockpit stayed white. Weird! IS that a problem with the Yak, the JU188, or me?

I love this plane. Thanks alot.

Spanky,

could you be a bit more specific please? What kind of problems do you have with the ailerons? The flickering poly on the underside of the engine-nacelles is a known one, or is it something else?

Yeah just like on the engine bottoms. That happens on the airlerons.

Pvt. Roger, sounds like your texture memory is being all used up. I tried to be stingy with the textures and the polys on the yak and I've never seen this but I have a 32mb video card.

Roy, love the bomber! I did notice the nose gun position moves opposite to the joystick.. I push right the gun goes left. Also when I am flying as pilot and shoot the guns the gun wanders around a bit rather than shooting where the site is.

Love the cockpit! And the top turret, beautiful! That must have been a LOT of work !

I thought about that, but I have a GeForce 32meg card myself. Doesn't seem like a problem with it.

I just tried a Ju188 and zero mission with heavy clouds followed by a ju188 and yak3 mission with heavy clouds. Ran fine except for some fps slowdown on the zero mission (reflections?)

I think the problem lies with your video drivers. I had problems with the clouds doing funny things on my TNT2 after nvidia upgraded from their 2.8 drivers so I just stayed with the old drivers. Not sure if the geforce will run the older TNT2 drivers but you could try.

Can you fix the front gun that goes left when pointed right etc. Also you only see the gun but at certain angles(and it looks good)I think this is a problem with the A4 as well??Awsome otherwise.?too easy to shoot down(ie hits required to kill it)

Keep the bug reports flying in! I record all of them for fixing (If I can).

Sebulba, the turret gunner stood just behind and slightly right of the pilot seat. To me the situation looks pretty cramped. Maybe My Ju 188 looks a little like the gunner is sitting on the pilots lap, but this is probably one of the last things I'll correct.

Just a quick note to keep you up to date with the changes:
1. Nosegun fixed
2. Bombbay fixed
3. Ugly glass-polies in the nose fixed (it looks much better now)
4. Engine poly-flicker fixed
5. Turret gunsight visibility improved

And here is my TODO-list:
1. fix aileron flickering. I have never seen the ailerons flickering. Spanky, can you post a pic?
2. Correct the defensive armament: The Ju 188E had an MG 131 in the turret, not the 20mm MG 151, and a twin MG 81Z in the belly-position. The current armament is from an A-model (which had different engines).
3. Make low-detail LODs for canopy, cockpit, wings and VStab.
4. Fix flight model
5. Fix damage model
6. Calibrate the Radar so the Range on the scale matches the actual range to target.
7. Get the Radar-echo to dissapear when the target is outside the 30 degree Radar-cone. I'll need help on this one. Anybody?
8. Remapping. This is a nightmare, and I'm still hesitant. How good/bad do you find the texture-mapping on the bottom of the nose section (the bola-gunner position)?

BTW, can you please post the framerates you get with the Ju 188 compared to those you get with the Lanc?

Peter
