People who investigated the area all ended up totally discouraged. If I remember well the hurdle was cutting the terrain 3D model into hundreds of terrain lods and having them all textured one by one.I've tried gathering data like satellite pics but got totally confused by the various and incompatible DEM formats. I have downloaded several DEM models of western europe (centered around Normandy because my original idea was to make a D-Day terrain), and various DEM-aware progs like terragen and 3Dem but nothing works

Laika, I posted a tutorial on my site on just re-texturing a terrain... and you really don't want to know how long and complicated it is... for a complete terrain from scratch?? Well, it's something thats always on my mind, especially now that I've moved onto learning Max and OPS.. but I know one thing for sure, after making Snowy Dover.. building a terrain from scratch will be no small task in anyway with whatever tools you have. That said.. it really needs to be seriously looked into, but I say this quiet often. ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

I dont work on a terrain actually, but I think alot about it. And with the "dicer-tool" (read Svīs topic) I dont think it is too hard to make a new terrain (not a whole map, just the surface).IP: Logged |

Well, I can tell you how I made the Pacific terrain. But beyond that, I'm totally lost.------------------ Cheers! Jaguar The FS Hangar IP: Logged |
