Ok - my english is not good, so I almost didn´t understand what the problem is. I read the topic in the flame-wars area from whirlwind and I noticed all the rumors in the last days. And now I´m not sure, if it still makes sense to carry on with building new planes ? All I know is that it is much much work for a single person to learn and manage all that stuff wich comes along when you build a plane (especially when it is your first one). I worked 3 months on the I-16 nearly every day, and it is still not really finished but I cant see it any longer. In the end there are maybe 100 or 200 people wich use the plane. Anyway, now I´m faster cause I know more about 3ds, OP, OPS and such stuff, but I wonder if it makes sense to start the next project. Will my piece of crappy work ever be a part of a planepack ? I´m not sure. I can say for sure that I´m not able and willing to do all the work alone from 0 to the final release, cause this is a fulltime job (you had to be a modeller, a OPS expert, a OP guru, a texturer, a texter, a mission builder, a painter, a researcher, ...). Dont put more honey in my mouth (I´m sure this are not the right words, hope you understand what I mean), I know that some people like the I-16 and some even like my "input" to the tech section of SDOE. All I want to know is, does it make sense to build the next plane ? IP: Logged |

"crappy work"? Laika, you said your English is not too good - let me give you a little lesson. "Crappy" does not mean "wonderful" in English.Your I16 is an outstanding plane. Considering that it is your first and that you did the whole thing yourself and not with a team makes it IMO one of the major accomplishments of the contest! If anyone but you had said it was "crappy" I'd be all over him like stink on shit. To answer your question: By all means build another plane - as long as you enjoy it. I know I'll fly it. I personally love your plane Laika. I'd love to fly anything you made. You did a great job. A ver thourough job too.Don't let the flame wars or the complainers bother you. Instead, think about all the folks like me who downloaded your creation. Marveled at the beatuy of it. Took it up for a spin and thought how crazy fun the nible little fighter was, and how we all started making missions to fly it in. Yeah there are a bunch of ungrateful louts out there. And there are a bunch who are grateful, but don't say it well while they complain about other issues. But in the end you did something most of us never, ever will. You created something new and fun. You brought joy to those who downloaded your creation, and you added to a sim and a community. Thats more than I ever did, or likely ever will do. Salute! IP: Logged |

Don't forget Laika that the "online world" is not the only part of this game. There wouldn't BE a "Russian Front" without the Rata and the Yak. There wouldn't be a Spanish Civil War without the Rata and the 109E. There wouldn't be a Pacific Theater (SDOP?) without the Zero and (ahem) Corsair and Tony and Dauntless. If guys want to work themselves into a lather complaining about how a new plane "doesn't work right" or "doesn't fly right" or "causes mismatches online," well, that's their privilege, but it's also THEIR problem to get over it. Is the "root cause" of online mismatches the "failure" of the builders to build "good" planes, or the failure of the guys making the missions to describe EXACTLY what their missions require to play? (Or maybe a little of both?) Bottom line: Is SDOE a "better" game with the new planes, warts and all, or with only the "polished" planes? I think that's a pretty easy question, myself. 3 new planes in a year, or 23? As far as I'm concerned, our only real "responsibility" as builders here is to keep the community informed of the status and location of the most current versions. After that, it's play at your own risk until the new planes are "refined" into versions that meet "Plane Pack 5.X" standard. Quite frankly, the fact that Laika even asked the question as to whether or not he should build a new plane should be pretty disturbing to EVERYONE. How many guys here can build a Quality Plane like the Rata? Do we really want them to be questioning whether or not it's worth their time? ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

I most certainly think that the Ishak should be in the next plane pack... wether you've been builder for years, or just started, it's a really good piece of work. Everything is there and usable, it flies and fires... you've done all that you can and made it to the best of your ability.. you're to be commended on that, don't know your own ability, you've proved with that one plane that you can do it, and do it to a good standard It's great work and I look forward to anything you do in the future ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

If you are building planes to please other people then it will be a lot of hard work that does not make you feel good. It will be just like a doing hard work without getting paid.IP: Logged |

>If you are building planes to please other people then it will be a lot of hard work that does not make you feel good. It will be just like a doing hard work without getting paid.We are on the same wavelength, Marc. I don't do anything for the the game or the community. Anything I've done, I've done mostly for myself. Even so, I get a tremendous kick out of the fact that other people might want to use what I create. I also appreciate and find the community feedback of tremendous value... even when it's not necessarily positive. But the primary motivating factor is always myself, my interest in the subject matter, and my interest in simulations... the rest is just extra. I for one would hate to see you stop making planes Laika! Especially since I read that you are planning on the Pe-2 next-- this would be an awesome addition to the game. If modeling peaks your creative urges, than screw the other whiners here- do it for yourself. And as far as what you said in your other post about all the things you have to do solo-- while I can't help with modeling- I can definitely help making training and other missions. I don't have a resume but you can download any of my campaigns from Zoy's site to see my work. I also helped jedi with some training missions for his Corsair- and made the training missions and a campaign for the Dauntless- so please e-mail me if you are interested in my help in this area. And please make the Pe-2 ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless!

Enough honey ! I´ll do the work that has to be done. I dont do this work to please anyone (of course it is very nice when I get so much positive feedback). I build planes cause I like the idea of OP: Build up a plane and make it flying like the real one. Thanks for the positive thougts ! That answers my question and I´ll continue. Gaga - enough said, there´s some work to do LK IP: Logged |

JT,I have people request planes for me to do but did not do them because of lack of interest in my part. Right after the BF109G, Yardstick requested me to do the P-47 but I told him that I can not do it because I wasn't a fan of the plane. I think he is very happy now that Team Jug made the plane. Another plane that was requested a lot was the Stuka. I did not do it because I wanted to do other things. IP: Logged |

mposis,Good thing. Love to hear that. I'm into the jug, not because I like the plane per se (In fact, I stand by my earlier description of it as a steam locomotice, and I'd never use it online) but it has many things I like modeling, and no doubt it *does* have character, it's not another spit or p51. No doubt there are others who will do the stuka. Doing something you don't like doing, is a bad idea, since you'd do a poor job anyway, and to make matters worse, you wound't even enjoy doing it (in a way I envy all those happy handlers who destroy others work.) Bjorn's principle: Always prioritice things you enjoy, or you'll never have fun! (and, yeah, I tell my emplyees that too, it's true.) _ /Bjorn. IP: Logged | |
