Download it from: http://models3d.webjump.com

You need the Zero to fly the included mission.

Dang, it looks too good for torpedo tests, but it is a nice armed target to test rockets attacks on. Fly in a water height and poke up to 1200, point nose towards target, target the smoke from the stacks (or the mast head), squeeze, zip over at bladder loss level, proceed home.

Jeez! Try to approach that thing when you're on opposite sides! She blows the shit out you. Try a Kamakazi attack. Deadly.

Jerry,

The AI leads the plane perfectly. If you are flying straight you are an easy target. You have to keep turning to avoid the AA.

Give John Wayne a bulldozer, 150' of breathing hose, and a stick of TNT and he'd send that carrier to the bottom.

You guys catch on quick. Part of the reason the torpedo bombers attacked alone was due their higher airspeed en route. The CAP was drawn down to intercept, and couldn't make it back up in time to engage the slower dive bombers. Was it planned this way? Who knows.

MP, if your planning to chang anything on this, could you make the bridge area bigger, so it looks like it could fit people inside it Great though, atleast a ship that fights back.. don't tell me the Patrol boats and Exeter do or else I'll laugh! LOL

Actually, the TBDs were horribly slow planes. It was just bad luck for them that they flew the most direct route to the Japanese carriers at Midway. But it turned out to be very good luck for the US attack as a whole.

Heya Nat--

There are two different versions of the Akagi out. This one is based on Pete Hawk's version, I think (please correct me if I'm wrong mposis!). and the other is based on Dole's work-- but Dole's Akagi does not allow you to place planes on the deck for some reason, and the guns seem to draw much more framerates away than this version. I also think it's a litlle bit bigger-- although I have no idea which one is more accurate!

Nat,

Right now, I am not going to continue work on the Akagi since I have decided to make the IJN Zuikaku carrier instead.

jeeves,

I made this Akagi carrier from scratch. It gets high FPS because it has less polygons than the previous models and it also has lower polygon LODs switchin at far distances. The dimensions are correct except for the island.

Oops...sorry mposis!! I'm glad I asked for clarification-- I hope you're not offended. It really is a piece of work- and the framerates here don't drop as low as those present when Dole's AA-equipped Akagi is used. It truly is a dream- and will be used quite honorably in my Midway campaign for the Dauntless.

Stuff like this really makes me want an Aichi D3 Val... wouldn't that be great for a pacific campaign? I wonder if Whirlwind is going to convert that .fst model he has to an .sm file anytime soon...

And of course a US carrier or two, and maybe the Hiryu and a couple destroyers....

Maybe in a few months :-)

charm

Anyhow, good work marcus, the pacific theatre would be pretty barren without your efforts!

That pic looks superb matey!
just one question, do you reckon the pilots of the other planes will have time to get out of the way before the idiot in the plane trying to land hits the deck (Literally)?
