That took me one week ! Its still not much to see, but the Instruments are up, the rudder pedals are moving, gear indicator lights are fine (much trouble).

The next things are the gear handle and some other handles ("flaps", brakes, some switches and details, and maybe I retexture the inside walls (maybe).

Do you like it ? So maybe you want to help me with this: The I16 ailerons work also as flaps (both lowered 15 deg). How should I make this ? I thought about making 2 new dof´s (one for each aileron) and couple them with the flap command, so the ailerons go down 15 degrees when I lower the invisible flaps, will the "extra" rotation of the ailerons change the behavior of the plane (if so I could remove the flaps !) ???

Thats looking cool. Could you post a pic of the original so we can compare?

Not sure about the set up of the airlerons.

Compare it with this site:
http://www.nzfpm.co.nz/aircraft/i16.htm

I dont want to post the images here cause I´m not sure with the copyright thing.

I´m not sure if they use original russian instruments (unfortunatly they dont answer my mails ).

Please dont blame me for the bottom, in the original you can see through the gearholes, but I never ever will model this cause it increases polcount to much (and decreases FPS much more).

Keep up the good work Laika. I know how much work goes into these cockpits - I've finished 6 to date So your efforts are much appreciated.

Laika-
Why don't you give your idea a try. I don't know if it would work, but it certainly might, and it would be nice to know if it does.
Just out of curiosity, how did the original I16 work? If the ailerons were lowered as flaps, and then the pilot tried to roll one way or the other, what would happen to the ailerons (how would they move)?

ps, I think the cockpit work is great!

charmstar - good question - I dont know it for sure, but I think they move like before just 15 degrees lowered and the maximun angle is 15 deg smaller (upwards).

It seems everyone is downloading and testing planes in the moment. So I have to wait for an answer to my question

just to keep the topic fresh - here are the latest news:

Gear handle works now (a bit odd)! How can I make a DOF that rotates 44 times and stops (I tested oscLooping (it never stops) and set the maximum angle to 360x44 (works, but not right)) ?
The Mainpanel is definetly ready and done for me, I will not put any more work on this (only to fix errors you may find).
High detail lod for the cockpit is nearly done (moving Gear-, Brake- and "Flap" handle and some other details added).

Could it be that there is a maxium of materials/textures I can use in one LOD/obj file ? When I reached 19, OPS chrashes on import.

thats all for now - I had to do some work (and still need an answer.. )

I think you mught have to make 44 separate DOFs...... but I'm sure prople won't notice the difference between 20 or 40

Noce work on the plane BTW!

The materials thing is a bug in OPS (its actually 16!) I have fixed it and will release it when I get around to it.

I removed the brake crank, cause I read that the brakes are on the stick. So I got 3 handles left and dont know what they do. ?

44 dof´s = much work !

44 DOFs wouldn't be too bad if you were just editing the asc file. You could just set the delay for each of them so that one ends just as another starts. OTOH, how important is that gear crank anyway?

Yeah - HOW IMPORTANT ? I dont know, but I allways tried to make the plane so historical accurate as possible. The perfect gear for the I-16 should behave like this: it would be harder to fly the plane while moving ther gear up or down, the behavior of the plane changes when the gear is down. You would need 44 turns (key presses whatever) to move the gear up/down and this should take a while.
Some thing are not possible now. I think I will make the crank with 10 turns or so, not very realistic, but better as nothing.
