Is there not a way to have damaged areas display a different skin? So that if a planes been shot up, you can see that it has been when your close enough, to me they always look like new no matter how many holes you put through the thing. Even if it's only a complete damaged wing texture, of fuse. texture, least to make it look shot up after it's taken a specified amount of hits.

Spanky here..

YEp thats possible Its just more work but i don't think its a hell of alot of more work. If i'm thinking right i think it will take mre texture space on the vid card. Not sure though.

I personally think everyskin should come in a normal and damaged skin flavor so people can start adding this too a plane or people that build the planes can start doing this first.

There certainly is!

Look at the Fokker Dr1a, and SE5a...

The key is "model replacement". You can replace any model with any other model at certain damage levels. You could even have more than one level of damage if you so wish. Damage models can use the same mesh with just a texture change, or can be completely new meshes.

Unfortunately Nat, the WW2 planes don't have damage texture files. You just get to see the damage when a wing gets ripped off or different things like that.

To have damage textures for WW2 planes, they would probably have to be re-mapped with a
damage textures tif and then have a way to point to the texture when damage occurs to that area.

At the moment two WWI planes have damage textures. The Fokker DR1 and the SE5a. I've done individual damage paintjobs for each skin I've done.
I'm not sure if any of the other WWI planes have damage textures or not.

Hope that answers your question.

SPanky here..

I don't know why people arn't doing this for the planes they build. It would add so much to the coolness factor.

Maybe someone should just do one of the common base planes so its already there when people start trading lods with a stock plane.

well, I for one would love the chance to make some damage skins, as I'm sure lots of us would, I thought I saw a damage skin for the SAE5, but I haven't flown it yet, Sorry SV, I've not gotten into the WW1 sector yet. But I really think this kinda thing needs to be done with all a/c as a matter of urgency, could be a good idea if you have the ime SV, to post anything on how to do it for the guys that are building out there, to me it's another step towards more "realism", and a massive step forward in the game, and how it looks, we should do what we can to attarct ppl to the game aswell as making it better for those of us that us it already

Guys, This would be easy to do with the WW II planes as well.

It just takes a little time.

This should be a good project for the OPS team when things slow down after the contest.
