Salute Gents,

I just had a brainstorm looking at my wallpaper I have from Aces High. The fog in this sim makes the sky look unreal, while the terrain and planes are the best I have seen. I think this can be fixed but need some input from you guys, I can't do it.

The fog is a decreasingly dense grey till you hit the ground. What if we could change the color of the fog? If you guys in the coding dept can make it a sky blue it would look much more realistic. The fog currently already has the fade property, so all you have to do is turn it blue. The sky in AH is one of the neatest I have seen, can this be done?

If you guys can pull this one off then you got my vote for "The Man" because it would make this sim look much more realistic. Hell, that would be better than a new plane in my book.

This can all ready be done in the new beta patch that is out.

I think JT did exactly what you suggest.

I used it to make a night sky too...

It can be sent on a mission by mission basis too!

Jeff,

Actually, the fog color isn't the problem. The real problem is the fact that the sky is not gradated. Without a gradated horizon, it's almost impossible to create convincing time-of-day colors. It seems like a really minor thing, but any painter will tell you it's actually very important if you want to create a convincing sky. I think this also why the sky in SDOE probably feels "wall-like", as opposed to feeling spacial.

Jeff,
By the way, you do know that you can set the horizon and fog distance, right?

Salute Gents,

Nope, I just bought the game last night, heh.
Looking for more tips like that, and how DO you do that anyway?

The easiest way is to download SDOE Control. With it you can easily and quickly tweak many game paramaters including fog distance. Go to fightersquadron.com and explore the links. You'll find a lot of great stuff. For instance SDOE control at
