Zoycite and I are still trying to get the Pilot death thing going. As it turns out it is not the stupid pilot. LOL It is the stupid plane.

We have two problems. First if the pilot ejects the plane still shakes and explodes unless the plane has an airspeed under 40-50 MPH But when if starts to fall/dive without the pilot and picks up speed it shakes the wings off and explodes. This just really bugs me.

The (Biggest) problem is that if I modify the DVIIpilot.sm the plane can not fly over 40-50 MPH without busting up...just as if he has ejected. We have full function over the plane...Shoot guns, views, can work all control surfaces and throttle. Just can't get the plane to go faster than 40 mph without busting up.

I have tried to copy a different pilot...same problem.

Here is the kicker...If I copy the working or modified DVIIPilot into any other plane and it works fine.

I don't know what to look for. I can just open the DVIIPilot.sm in OPS and Save it and it won't work in the DVII but will work in other planes???

Any suggestions?

You mean that the spring DOF's in the wings are too weak?

The spring/dof settings are fine. Wings detach if speed is much over 200 mph or if you pulls a lot of g's. WWI plane.

Remember when the wings would fly everywere by themselves if they detached or the plane exploded. This was later corrected by the 1.5 patch. Mighty said it may be that the wing CoG is off but I have not been able to fix it.

That is what is happening when the pilot ejects or is detached (If we put in a new pilot it acts like this too). The wings try to fly in different directions which makes the plane shake apart/explode.

This is really taking away from the game for me. Other planes just seem to fall away when the pilot ejects.

For some reason the plane only recognizes the original DVIIPilot.sm file Not a saved version or renamed version.

One thing about the DVII though... it is so very light right now. I think really light planes with big wings can tend to build up the oscilations you mention... I think other planes have had this trouble, but usually they are normal weight planes trying to go much faster than normal.

Try making the weight much higher - see if that fixes it... Just a thing to try. It might help shed light on what is causing the problem.

We have a winner. Sv, you have said all along that the low weight is causing problems for the DVII. I set the weight back to normal and it did seem to fix both the Pilot and the wing detach problem.

Only bad thing is we lost the superior climb rate. Zoycite is not going to be happy about this.

Well back to the drawing board.

Thanks for your help guys. Now I can let go of the last few hairs I still have left.

Good the hear Raider,

What we really need is a WWI airfoil, that would fix everything! It must be high-lift high-drag compared to the WW2 planes.

Pang has offered to help here after the contest.

I think WWI airfoils will add allot, but they need to be done well, not just "fudged." I tried the fudging idea, upping the lift and drag coef's where I thought they needed it, but as a wise TS said, "you can really get into trouble here."

Too bad I can't afford that Cray
