Hi guys:Well, I want to join the ranks of SDOE aircraft builders, but I'm having some problems. I've created lods for my plane (using AC3D) and have replaced the appropriate hi level lods in Hippie's extractor output of Sv's Se5a. When I fly the plane, all the lods are out of place. For example, the wings look about 5 scale feet from the fuselage. I saw a post saying parts could be moved in OpenStudio, but when I highlight a part and try to move it, the whole model moves with it. Any ideas how to fix this??? IP: Logged |

At the top of the screen, there is a button along the bottom row with a picture of a camera on it, click on that, and is should present you with a drop down list that allows you to select a yellow thing. That one is the parts move mode.Things to remember when importing LOD's: 1) Center at 0,0,0 prior to export or the positioned parts lift, ect will be taken in account at the center of the object instead of the part itself. 2) In OPS, refresh the model in order to see what the new part looks like on the plane. Make sure OPS is in part editing mode. (Theres a dropdown menu to the right of the movement/rotation/zoom controls for this) Otherwise you will be moving the camera position, not the part. Also, if you select the fuselage of the plane and try to move it, all of the other parts will move as well since they are sub-parts of the main fuselage. Instead of moving the fuselage to the correct place you'd have to move all of the other parts instead. IP: Logged |

Welcome to the world of OpenPlane. It's a powerful thingie, but power in the hands of the inexperienced is a dangerous thing. Don't worry, though, we've all been through it, and can probably talk you through it.Lesson 1: Moving LODs to where they belong in OPS. You mainly navigage OPS through the three button bars. One the lower one, the left most, and most frequently (for me anyway) used buttons are the arrow pointer, moving cross, rotate and looking glass. A bit further to the right you see a drop down button that looks like a video camera. If you have the moving cross selected, and the video camera in sight, moving the mouse around means that you move your viewpoint. Useful, but not what you primarily want when moving objects around. Press the camera and select the object that looks like a yellow wingtip. That's the object selector. With it active, the movement cross will move whatever object you select. If you feel like you've cause more mess than good (happens to me most of the time,) just exit without saving. That said, save as soon as you're satisfied with an operation. One of the downsides of OPS, at least in my hands, is that it crashes often. _ /Bjorn.

Hi Scruff. I've only been starting out myself as well. In Openplane Studio (I use v 1.2 or something like that, the latest version), look where the camera symbol is. Click the icon near that and you will see a yellow icon that says {part}. Click on that and you can then move your parts around.I was fooling around re-texturing the Corsair. The skin looked great when you were far away. Up close, the plane looked like an impressionistic piece of art. Still working on moving the parts in Ops. Hope that helps. (how am I doing SV, Nuum? )

Thanks for your help guys (& gals?). I'll try this stuff out later tonight. In fact, it might take me most of the night (if it works...) IP: Logged |

Whoops! How did that last post of mine happen - oh the mysteries of browsers. All the advice helped (as did Sv's help this past weekend). I found out that my Microsoft Intellimouse actually allowed me to be in OPS part mode and also zoom/move/rotate the whole model - turning OPS into a true VR machine. The outcome of all that was to have 2 lovely jets (X29 and F16a) plummet gracefully (not) to the ground. Time to get with the flight model ). I've done that before in MSFS, so it'll be interesting to see how Openplane compares. Thanks again for the help - Awl Be Bach.. (p.s. got to bed at 1:15 pm, and I'm gettin' too old for this). LOL Scruff, 1:15 PM the next day??? I was going to say that 1:15 AM is early for a plane builder.... then noticed the PM. I guess you are a true plane builder. Welcome to Open Plane Raider 33~GS IP: Logged |

Um, yup, it shoulda been 1:15am. Please reference the remark about getting old - maybe that's why I got my normals reversed... (this brain malady will hopefully not show up in combat).IP: Logged | |
