After long and hard struggles (started 3. jan 2000) here it is : the I-16 Polikarpov "Ishak" - Beta 1.0 At first I want to thank all those great people out there wich helped me to get things working (more or less ) - THANK YOU !!!
The main parts of the Ishak are finished. Only the cockpit/main panel is still in a pre-Beta phase. Flight and Damage Models are more in a pre-Alpha state. The wing textures are mirrored, this could make some trouble if you want to paint real good cammo, but I´m to lazy to remap and reorganize the textures . I got some texture templates in progress so repainting will be quite easy. Known bugs/problems :
- low detail lods are somehow wrong (I dont know if this is a TNT2 problem) - shadows - tailwheel (invisible) behaves odd, but it works - wheel points are wrong - I still got no good idea how to find out the right position - (I´m not sure if the loadout settings for the guns/cannons are right) - no smoothing yet (except spinner) - no "real" flaps (= 15 deg lowered ailerons..) just the old P51 flaps - ? Installation :
Just extract the zip file into your fighter squadron folder. Please repost test results, suggestions, tips, fixes, bugs, errors whatever to this topic or mail them to me ! I still could need some experts for FM and DM !!! Have Fun ! Laika 801 IP: Logged |

Laika, you did a tremendous job on that I-16. I just took it for a spin around those Ju-88s. It is super! Nice job.Are you sure you're not a professional? dauntless851

It looks really cool but.... When you reach 320 in speed the a/c shakes like mad as if the wings are abput to break off due to speed. It then accelerates to about 380 and the a/c yaws really quick. Thats as fast as it went for me before I pulled back hard and slowed down but the wings didn't break off.The AI don't seem to be able to take off, both died on takeoff in the Third mission. Other than that its pretty cool. I don't know anything about how it handles other than it seemed very nimble. Nice work Snake [This message has been edited by Snake (edited 03-08-2000).] IP: Logged |

ohh - a bit late..Snake - I also wondered why the wings dont bend anymore (speed about 410 and pulling the stick hard back - just nothing) , maybe I had to set the spring/whatever setting of the wing DOF´s to an lower value, but I dont know nothing about this yet (still testing ). IP: Logged |

Wow! Just had a ball flying it, landed, and then tried to take off. It's pretty hard (if not impossible) to take off in, but wow, you did a superb job modeling it! If you start it in the air it has a very unique and fun feel to it. It's easy to get into trouble as well which makes it that much better. It looks fantastic! Congrats! IP: Logged |

Yeah takoff is hard, especially without a rudder. I do it this way (I didn´t got a rudder) :Start taxiing with 30-40%, then comes a point where the plane tilts to the left, now some rudder (or pull stick hard left) till the plane is straight again, full throttle - takeoff (always use rudder to keep the right direction). It´s hard I know - but I dont know why ! The AI allways makes perfect takeoff´s ! IP: Logged |

Or try this:full power, hands away from the stick till the planes is straight again (watch out for trees)... IP: Logged |

Spanky here.. What do you mean Nat? It doesn't have to be a real paintjob that was actually used if thats what you mean. Juat somthing that looks like it would have been used by the Soviets in the winter. IP: Logged |

As Spanky has seen I've knocked out a Winter Cam for the i16 (wicked piece of work btw ) it's posted over at my site, extract it direct into the textures folder. It's not historicaly correct, if anyone sees a pic of one in winter cam let me know ------------------ JV~44 "Naturlich" If you can't beat em.... out run em!http://members.xoom.com/naturlich/

Thanks for your feedback ! As it seems the "visuals" of the plane are good enough for a beta version. But I dont get so much feedback on FM/DM and this is the hardest point for me to do. So I made a decision: In the next weeks I´ll finish the LODs for the cockpit, main panel and some other stuff (RS-82 rockets..), i´ll apply smoothing to the plane parts (if it works). I´ll also check the CG´s of the parts and some other FM related things I understand till now. Skins are canceled (sorry), cause I think we dont need alot of skins for a beta version. I´ll post my texture templates later this week (maybe sunday) so that all painters can use them if they want. Thanks so far and keep on testing !!! LK 801 IP: Logged |

it has one wierd aspect to it.. try this.. stopped on a runway, give it full left or right rudder, then centre the rudder, sit back and watch.. lol (external view is best) this Baby can jive! lol - spins in circles and don't seem to wanna stop till you hit the brakes.. lolIP: Logged |

Hey Laika, this little plane of yours is a beauty! I can't see what's wrong with the shading. Attaching skis should be pretty easy: declare the skis as rocketpods and in the loadout-file make skis a loadout-option. Lad the skis with 0 rockets, and there you go. Take a look at the Ju 88C-6 to see how it works. IP: Logged |

'One of the most startling uses of the tiny but rugged fighter came in ramming attacks. Pilots were taught to hit the tail surfaces of German bombers, then bail out. In theory, the strength of the I 16 would allow the pilot grace to bail out afterwards'Janes Aircraft of WW2, Polikarpov I-16 I reckon i'll have to give this a go! IP: Logged |

He's saying Laiki, that on your I-16 their is no "fully enclosed canopy" which is CORRECT.Which in turn, makes bailing out, much simpler. Rattler IP: Logged |

Speaking of cockpits.LK, there is a full cockpit that appears in the outside view from a distance. Probably from a lower detail lod. When you zoom in closer it changes to the open cockpit. IP: Logged |
