I finally got it to a point for a beta release.

Things that still have to be done:

Cockpit
Landing Gear
FM
DM
Canopy Glass fix
a few other things

Download it here: http://www.fightersquadron.com/flightline/zip/f4f4beta.zip

Give me feedback on the plane.

Very nice! When I first started up the sim though I got a CTD. I opened up your training mission, moved the plane icon a little and gave it some fuel (it said 0 for gas). Restarted and it worked.

It's gonna be a nice plane!

Does this plane have low detail LODs yet? I added 8 more Wildcats to the training mission and got a framerate of about 15 when all planes are on screen and the view is fully zoomed out. Just wondering if something hidden was causing this or if it was because the lower LODs aren't in yet.

Well Razor-

Just wanna say thanks- I enjoyed being Jimmy Thach for a couple of hours Now- I see you don't have the FM done, but I gotta tell you it seemed real to me! If you don't believe me, try turning with a Zero. I had to use a few of my tricks to get on his tail- and it took a good 20 minutes of maneuvering- so whether you meant it or not...good job!

One question- and I know this would be a bear considering how the Wildcat did it...but are there plans to make the wings foldable? It would be quite a job as they twisted and then tucked in (very unlike the Corsairs' simple fold up)- but if it is doable...that would be awesome. Thanks again to Falck for starting this one out and to you Razor for having the gumption to finish!!

Spanky here...

Yep those wings will get done for sure. They are too tempting. And He is the KING of DOFS.

Razor, I like the indentation of the cowl youve done, very nice.

Jeeves, as to the folding wings...
We decided that they would be low priority. As of now I dont see a point of including them when you would be limiting the aircraft to be starting on a carrier (unless you make two versions and that would be messy) The wings were manually folded (by ground crew, not from the cockpit) Worried about the DOF for the gear right now let alone the wings

To continue with the mapping deal...

Have you thought about making it with two tif files and giving yourself room for the top and bottom of the fuselage? It would eliminate the 'stretched' effect on the tops and bottoms.....similar to the Corsair and Marcus' aircraft.

I will be adding the lower LODs in the next beta. The texture mapping will be fixed also. I will have the wings folding the correct way, but not before the major things are finished. It is no problem to have them fold correctly. I still have to put the bombs & rockets in the correct place. The cockpit will be built this week if I have time. Is there any other request for the plane?

Razor747,

The Wildcat is well appreciated and a nice compliment to the zero.(thou a A6m2 or 3 varient would match better

The FM seems well progressed for a 1st beta.

Thanks for sharing it with us at this stage!

Its really cool Razor747. Is the reflector sight over to the left like that in the real thing?
