The 4th level wing lods (that is, the lowest level of detail for the wings) on my P-47 are doing something wierd. The texture for the bottom of the wing keeps showing up on the top and the lighting is reversed. The wings are dark on top and light on bottom. I've tried everything to get around this... made the wings over, flipped the normals... everything. No matter what I do, when I bring them in, they are goofy. Is there something in the .asc that would do this?IP: Logged |

I have never heard of that before..... but think of it this way. At the distance the 4th level kicks in, does it even matter? I know it's annoying just knowing it's screwed up, but don't beat yourself up over it. ------------------ Cheers! Jaguar The FS Hangar IP: Logged |

How thick are they? Is it just one flat poly?------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE!

They are completely flat, but they are not double-sided polys. They have top and bottom surfaces that are polys unto themselves and textured individually. They aren't using the feature of the SDOE engine that allows you to create double-sided polys, so it's not that thing. In other words, if the wing was a simple rectangle, it would be made of 2 polygons... a top and bottom surface.IP: Logged |

Do you merge the 2 polygons and optimize the vertices? If you do try it without optimizing.

When I have seen this it is normally becuase you have a 'mirror' transformation in the matrix somewhere that isn't picked up by SDOE/OPS but is by MAX. To fix it you normally have to reset the XForm, or set the identity matrix on the object (via the Listner). Once you do this the faces will (should!) show up as they will in SDOE so you can then flip the face normals to get it right. IP: Logged |

Bryan,Ok, should I talk to Neo or Morpheus then? Heheh... just kidding... thanks, Bryan. MPosis, I made sure the verts of the tops and bottom surfaces aren't optimized. Thanks, everyone... I'll let you know what I find out. [This message has been edited by JT (edited 03-01-2000).] IP: Logged |

You might also want to reverse the vertecie order.IP: Logged |

JT - did it works now for you, and when how ??? I got exactly (100%) the same problem and I tried also alot of things and wont give more time to these fckn 3th level detail lods (so much other things are still to do). They are hard to see in SDOE but itīs not so easy to say I dont care when thereīs a bug in my plane. LKIP: Logged |

Yes, I think so. I looked at the 4th level wing lods and noticed that the polyflags were set to 90. I changed them to 10, and now it's appparently normal. IP: Logged |
