Uh itīs late - I removed the tail gear and placed a nice tail skid as used on the I-16 to my model. Taxiing is nearly impossible now. The plane behaves like it is on ice.
Wheel dofs are definitly straight (-1,0,0) and the skid (and bodyPts) is at 0,Y,Z = right in the middle of the plane. The AI isnīt able anymore to takeoff with the plane (80% crashes). I read that some others got this problem too but I dont find a solution or a tip how to fix this. So what should I do now ?

Ah - The WheelPt for the tail skid is not placed correctly cause I dont find a way to get the exact coordinates for this point, could this be the reason for the skidding ?

I also should mention that Mark Hanna wrotes this in his article "Flying the Rata" :

"...she runs pretty much straight as an arrow..."

My I-16 runs straight like I do when I totally drunken.

If you look at the Fokker you will see that it actually has an invisible wheel at the tail, and a visible skid. Perhaps this is what you need?

much better now (not straight as an arrow yet)

I also find out that my empty (no Lods,Points and dofs) tail parent is not at x=0 and all the childs of it also (rudder and tailgear), so I hope when I fix this it will be better than now. The engine GearRation is also not right yet and the plane is much too fast.

Some strange thing I noticed when I tested this: I had to do the work twice cause after the first test the bodPts of the tailwheel where still in the sm file but not recognized by SDOE. I reload an backup file and did exactly the same modifications but now it works. Strange !?.

For my WWI planes I always delete the existing tail-wheel form the Fokker DR1a and copy and paste one from the FW190. This way you can position it perfect in OPS, then just ad an obHidden to it.

Laika 801,

That sounds fine too. I just wanted to keep the LOD around in case I needed to re-position the tailwheel later.

Oh - I know this stupid situation - kill a lod or something else (a dof) and 10 minutes later - "...shit..."
