OK, Kudos to Razor747, who has apparently discovered the insidious bug in the Corsair!

Here's the (temporary)fix, for those of you who have no lives and no jobs and can't wait for me to get off my lazy butt and fix it right and just HAVE to fly NOW NOW NOW...

Go into OPS and delete (yes delete) the top-level LODs for the windscreen (CPG-HW) and canopy (CANOPY). There is something wonky in the glass it appears. You shouldn't have to do anything to the lower-level canopy LODS. Be careful not to select the cockpit instead of the glass (the windscreen frame is part of the cockpit).

If you have a 3D program, you can try deleting JUST the glass surfaces from the canopy and windscreen, or playing with the transparency of the parts. I deleted the glass from the canopy and made the windscreen opaque (from the outside) and flew around in Glide (!) for a while last night, with NO CTD. I left the distant canopy .lods alone, with no ill-effects.

Razor also found some frame-rate hogging parts in the prop, which will be relatively easy to fix.

I'll make a big push to get a new patch out this evening. I have a "Glide-friendly" Malcolm canopy on my Mustang III that I believe I can adapt, and I've already done some work on the prop.

Thanks again Razor!

"Fixes? I don' need no stinking fixes!" I am in lust with this plane! Only time it went ctd for me last night was when I used a non standard squadron. (Only the fact ma'am...)

I can see that we are going to need to versions though. One that starts with the wings extended the other with the wings retracted. Finally an American plane to put on the Akagi (The Saratoga is just too big.)

You guys do great work. Thanks. I've got the tools (trust me, I am tight with a dime on what software I buy so that was unsual...)but never get a chance to do anything that makes sense.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK EVERONE!

OOPS! On thing I noticed, the clock doesnt work. Must be from a Chevy.

Hehe if you want the wings to start out retracted, just go into OPS, find the wingTip DOFs with "wingFoldToggle" in them and swap the Min and Max values. That will set "initial condition" to folded wings.

I wouldn't start any "inflight missions" that way tho. Version 2 doesn't fly NEARLY as well with the wings folded And the wing tips weigh a lot more now. And they...um...rip off when they unfold in flight

If I have some free time (yeah right) I'll put together a plane that you can select that has the wings folded. Probably worth it just for mission creating possibilities.

Royal Navy Corsair probably coming soon too, time permitting, with birdcage canopy and clipped wings.

And hey...isn't ANYONE gonna make a Hornet/Enterprise/Bunker Hill or HMS Invincible CV out of the Akagi?

Do I hafta do everything myself? The only thing I wanna do to the Akagi is drop 500-pounders down her stack with the Dauntless

Also, if we have airplanes that look like tanks, and Zeppelins and barrage balloons that fly, and carriers that spawn themselves and travel around the map, and V2 missiles and WSOs whose heads follow targets around, is it really out of the realm of possibility to make a dadgum TORPEDO????

If somebody can make a torp, I'll make an Avenger to drop it. And I've got a REALLY cool idea if somebody can make a bomb that bounces, and explodes on a timer...

P.S. mposis--nope, sorry, still at work, haven't checked home email yet.

jedi,

I sent you a fix for the cockpit glass but the frames are not visible from inside. I will fix this and send it to you if you want. I also took out about 200 polygons from the spinner so that I can now get 60FPS in Glide(640x480) in the external view.

I will look at the other lods to see if I can take out some more polygons.

Great, thanks mposis!

I have the canopy frame as a separate part I can merge with the glass. I'll do a test with just your glass, and if all goes well, add my frame back on.

I'll take a look at the prop hub too. As long as it looks round while spinning and looks like a prop while static, it'll be good.

Man, looks like my "acknowledgements" portion of the readme is gonna be longer than the instructions portion So far I've got Razor, Razer, Mposis, a guy who did an AW skin I adapted (forgot his name but I'll get it), Condor, and of course Hippie.

Heck, I shoulda dona a beta a month ago. I'd be done now!

Speaking of flying with the wings folded- I was playing around last night with the marvelous Corsair (when I shoulda been doing paperwork...thanks alot jedi!) and actually not only took off with wings folded- but was flying around for 20 mins with them folded- just takes a lot of rudder swinging- lots of fun...can't wait for tonight's Glide fix!!

Spanky here...

Great to hear man. See Betas are good people.

Great to hear about the FPS fix. Now we know what happens when you put too much detail into the prop. hehe

Jedi, I love the Corsair, just finished a high detail skin for it Thing is, I never had this CTD problem from the start, it flies in Glide or D3D, but what I have found is that I can't start with more than one Corsair per mission. I've installed your patch, but I'm wondering from what you've said, is there going to be a further patch to stop this happening, or is something messing up specific to me now? I've seen screen shots of multiple F4's un flight, and think that I can fly against them, but not with them.. get it?

Anyway, if you can tell me if we're just waiting for the last patch that'd be cool

Thanks
The Corsair is a truely stunning piece of work!

jedi,

I don't think you will notice the deleted polygons. They were inside the spinner and not really visible.
