k

I had it before but now i'm messed.

What tools and plugins do i need to work with only max and ops and what rules should i follow?

right now this is my process

K in ops
export lod mesh as test.obj

import test.obj into crossroads
export test.obj as test.3ds

import test.3ds into Max

play with it.

export as test.3ds
import into crossroads
export as obj

then i try to load it into OPS and it doesn't work

as far as i understand importing will replace the currently selected part.

and then you have to hit that save/reload button right?

do i have to be in part select move mode?

is their a better way to do this?
is there stuff i should be avoiding or doing? (tail mentioned something about max only working with triangles or OBJs only being polys so he converted to obj to lower the poly count or somthing)

and finally do we have plugins that work for importing and exporting 3DS instead of OBJ or better yet MAX?

wa thats huge. sorry guys

Hi Spanky!

Why walk that extra-mile with Crossroads? It wipes out all the texturing info, and it breaks your object up into triangles. There are import- and export plugins for that kind of stuff. You should get OBJ2MAX and MAX2OBJ from this site:
www.habware.at/duck2.htm

I am having some serious trouble with importing my .obj-files to OPS. Please let me know how you fare.

Spanky,

Make sure you search this forum for all Max related discussions. I would do a search on key words like "Max" and "OBJ"... there were a lot of important discussions here a few weeks ago.

Oh yeah. Importing. As i understand importing replaces the currently selected model

I make sure i'm in part selection mode.

Import model.

Save quit ops
restart ops
reload it its there.

not fool proof though but it works for me sometimes.

There are a few things to keep in mind when im- and exporting:
1. When importing make sure the scale is set to 1.0 in the OBJ2MAX-plugin. Set Max' units to feet.
2. When exporting don't select 'relative vertex numbers' in the MAX2OBJ-plugin.
