OK, did a small patch to the Corsair. Don't get too excited, I think this only solves a few minor problems. Go here to get it (F4uP1.zip 300K):
http://sites.netscape.net/jeditaub/Downloads/

Replaced P51 references with F4U, removed a bunch of hidden polygons from the fuselage, put all the real dimensions, weights, etc into the flight model (still flies good), moved some (but not all) obBodyPts to their correct spots, replaced the training and hangar missions (stable for me, who knows for you) Also enclosed PROPER .tif files to give you your wing oil coolers back!

Still no luck on the Glide stuff tho I have a plan tho...

If you haven't got the first version yet, the second (full) version is here (F4u1V2.zip,600K):
http://sites.netscape.net/jeditaub/Downloads/

Good luck. Hopefully it will help a few more guys to get it workin.

Don't get the patch if you get V2.

Jedi,
did you get my email? I fixed the problem with Glide. All you have to do is delete all the glass on the Corsair and it works great. It is causing the problems. You need to redo the glass, then it will work. The FPS is bad because of the center hub in the fast prop. It has about 1200 vertices . It doubles the vertices in the plane when it starts. If you remove it, the FPS will jump by about 20.

Ok, I love this plane. It looks great and I can't wait to fly it. It's still crashing but your training mission 2 helped me troubleshoot a bit.

It starts in one of the zeros and the game doesn't crash. If I switch to the f4u, the game ctd's.

So I went back and tried a couple of things. In F2 mode I started from a distance and moved in slowly. Most of the detailed lods turn on before the game crashes. It seems to be something in the cockpit or a lod only turning on very close. Just when I would expect some of the guages to begin appearing through the glass the game crashes.

Hope this helps.

OK, based on Razor's info, I guess I'd suggest to y'all NOT to download the patch OR V2, unless you want to do your own surgery on the canopy and the propeller.

The new fuselage and flight model stuff might be worth a look for those who have it working tho...

I'll attempt to incorporate Razor's fixes into something tomorrow. Gotta go to bed now

Spanky here..

Great work Razor747. Thats wacky that the hub has so many verts. Must be something weird I'm sure he can rebuild it to be much less. Lets hope so cause it looks really cool.

Keep working on it, you will get it.
My wife is really gonna be P.O.'d when I can get a working copy. She may not see me for awhile. hehe

Spanky here...

K I exported the prop as a obj
then converted to 3DS and looked at it in max
it looks a little over done.

I don't know how you got 1200 verts but for the hole prop i got 581 polys. Is that model just for the still prop? so its only showing all those for when its still and slow?

How do i look at what it is fast?

Ah ok i just figured that out.

K thats showing 540 polys but then it has alpha too. right.

K i played with it and for some reason i can't get stuff back into OPS with the import

I changed the tweaked 3ds back into a obj but it won't come in. what am i doing wrong?

The patch has all the extranneous .tifs removed

Just by optimizing the vertices in the prop last nite, I was getting 70 fps in Glide, 1024x768. I'll rework it to have less surfaces, and not model the prop hub quite the same way for the moving prop .lods. That will help some I'm sure.

Look for something tonite (hopefully)...

Thanks again Razor!

Strange this. I haven't had any problems with the V1 corsair. (Well except for the ground loops of course...) And I've played around with it for quite some time now.

I must tell you jedi she is really beautiful! Although I think the wing folding should be slower, maybe a little bit more synchronised and maybe a slight delay before anything happens after you press the command to simulate the hydraulics. Anyone have seen any films of the operation?

Changing the wing synch is easy. I just thought maybe they didn't both move together, but I don't know for sure. I originally had them taking 8 seconds to move, but that just seemed too long to watch (even though I'll bet the real process takes longer).

I suppose I should "stagger" the main gear too, but the main gear and door DOFs are kind of a rat's nest. Could be a two-beer session to do that one, so it's on the bottom of the list

The V1 Hog has some misplaced obBodyPts, so its tail wheel loses contact with the ground quickly, and slips and slides around. Hog V3 has those points moved to their correct spot, and the tail wheel is more effective. There is still a point during landing roll where the rudder is not effective enough to counteract the propwash. I need to either change the rudder aero effectiveness or decrease the propwash effect, but I haven't started playing with this yet.

The plane also comes apart in a dive too easily. I'm pretty sure the real Corsair could exceed 500 mph (knots even?) in a dive and come up smiling. Hog V3 will shed its wingtips at 425 or so Not sure which parameters to adjust for that one. Maybe strengthening the dofSpring and dofBreak values for the wingtips?
