I have taken serious consideration into registering AC3D, but I need to know from users, how steep is the learning curve? And about how long does it take to build an airplane from scratch, and texture it? I might start building my own planes.

Spanky here..

Besides some bugs I thought it was great.
by following SV's tuts i made a first draft of a fuse and wings for my P40 and was pretty happy with it.

I really like the interface and how easy it was to use.

Plus more people are using it.

BUT as soon as i updated my opengl drivers it went all screwed and as much as i played with my drivers nothing fixed it.

SUcks ass cause i was just getting use to it.

Its worth the money but don't touch your drivers after that

I love it to death.

It is very easy to learn if you understand the idea behind 3D graphics in general. NOw that I get it better I find AC3D is very good for making quick work of simple models. It lacks fancy functions, but for me that is good because it limits me from making huge complex models with way too many polys.

It has quite a few bugs though - the beta version at least. I just work around those bugs.

I think using AC3D with Hippie's plugins and Bryan's OpenPlane Studio is the easiest and fastest way to build OpenPlane stuff right now. However I bet that using 3Dsmax with OpenPlane studio would allow you to build the best planes.

I have not used 3Dsmax so I am just guessing here... also I am not a 3D guy, just an aircraft hacker

Spanky here...

I have one word about 3Dsmax. COMPLICATED!!

Its freaking hard compared to Ac3d.

I still have never textured anything.

To edit on a vertex basis you have to go into a menu, make the object editable. and then select sub-object/vertex.

Insane. I wish there was more simple things like ac3d.

That snap vertex in ac3d. Well i can't find one in max. I think weld is the same thing but it isn't its all wacked. I want to just tell it to join 2 and turn them 2 into 1 but i havn't a clue how to do it.

I wish i could turn off all the buttons that had anything to do wth animation. That would make it a bit less cluttered.

It will be really powerfull when i'm done learning it.

Things will be much better when someone starts a site like yours for max SV.
