Spanky here.. Hi guys. I was thinking with tailslids Yak coming along so nicely and the nations project near release i was hoping some of you artists could wipe up some Soviet skins for some of the planes we all ready have that they used under the Lend Lease program. I can't remember which planes they used but it seems like every time i read about a plane they mention i was used by the Soviets too. Would be pretty cool to add a new nation and aready have a bunch of planes and skins to use. Maybe we could start using some of those winter terrains online and get some easter front going. How cool would that be?

Well, I know that the Soviets received about 200 Thunderbolts. I can't find any images of how they were painted though.

I found this in the net: http://www.geocities.com/~ipmsfortcrook/VVS/vvscolor.html http://www.geocities.com/~ipmsfortcrook/VVS/Articles/grinberg_b25.html "...VVS Camouflage: As with all VVS camouflage schemes, there were never any "official" templates to make up a pattern, nor did most factories even employ templates (of any kind). Most schemes were in fact applied manually with a spray gun-- in some cases with great artistry and skill, and in other cases demonstrating neither of these attributes. Individuality was rampant, and some factory employee's schemes are so distinctive that they stand out in comparison to work by any other person, and 50 years after the fact can be traced to a single worker (the wonderful camouflage patterns of Nadia Bukhanova are an example of this condition, her 'tiger-stripe' and other beautifully meandering schemes are entirely distinctive). Rather than as a template, it is useful to think of VVS color patterns as a "theme". The color/pattern application would be similar over a block of machines, but rarely an exact copy of any other aircraft. Some features of a camouflage theme would be consistent, some would evolve over time in a linear way, and some elements were entirely the preference of the person spraying the machine. As well, different factory personnel were liable to have diverging opinions about the most suitable pattern, and in some cases even the most suitable color application. In addition to all this, some blocks of machines were completed at the factories intended for use on disparate Fronts, and in those cases they might be finished with a color scheme and pattern appropriate for that area, in contrast to the more typical theme currently in use at the factory..." Also I know that there is a book in our university library called "lend-lease blabla" that covers this and it should have many(some?) pics of foreign build planes used in the VVS. So if someone wish it I could scan the images... LK out-. IP: Logged |

Spanky here... THat would be great Laika 801. I think adding a Totally new Country to the game will be really cool. And won't even be that hard since they used alot of allied planes. We can use those to fill the ranks at first until more Soviet planes are make. Sorry about forgetting that your making a plane also. This will be so cool. Also you guys know. In a move to prompt more Soviet planes being built i put up more Sov cutaway pics on my site. Now they are. Yak 3 Yak 9 and Mig 3. I can add even more. But i'm lookingfor some bombers. Hey Laika I just found the cutaway of the plane your building I-16 It will be added to my site soon. I'll let you guys know when.

AFAIK, the Soviets had less than a handful of Mossies. What about their version of the Hurricane (i.e. with better armour and armament)? Their version of the P-39 was also improved.------------------ C/O Jagdgeschwader 5 'Eismeer' http://www.madasafish.com/jerry/jg5/ IP: Logged |

Spanky here... JG5Jerry Better then nothing though. It would just be cool to have a couple planes when we add it as a country and this is a quick way to fill it out a bit while still being histroicaly correct.
