So, I'd like to know how the AI handles flying the F2b when the player is in the gunner position. The hack I made of SV's SE5a (a 2 seater recon) had the main drawback being that the AI tended to go in circles, gradually losing altitude until it crashed. As I would be in the gunner position pleasantly firing away at pursuing enemies, I usually didn't notice we were going to crash until it was too late. Does the F2b have this problem too? The only solution I found was to change aircraft to type 'bomber, and put it on a bomb run. However, then it would just fly straight, which is equally unrealistic. Has anybody figured out how to get the AI to act realistically? For instance, doing S-turns to keep the enemy in the gunner's field of fire, or pulling up to do the same.charm IP: Logged |

The problem related to the SE5a is ddue to FM/AI control. I don't know quite why yet, but the AI never like to climb in a dogfight. I am quite sure, however, that I will be able to fix this by fixing the max speed / climb rates and AI settings... I hope

Can you access the trim tab controls from the gunner position? This would allow you to make gradual turns, climbs etc while manning the guns.Alternatively, could you add some DOFs to the ailerons, elevator, and rudder, i.e. "gunnerTurn" and "gunnerDive" etc that allow you to move the flight controls independently of the stick position? Would the sim recognize these inputs while you are "in control" of the gunner position?

You can make the plane fly in a nice straight line if you set the obClass to 'bomberIP: Logged |

Charmstar -I have not seen the F2b exhibit this behavior. I rode around in the gunner position taking pot shots at 190's for about 30 minutes and never crashed. We did loop alot and were constantly turning as the AI was trying vainly to engage the 190's - on the other hand 3 190's bought it because of the slow speed of the F2b - they stalled into a spin too low to recover - was very cool to watch. I did also manage to get some rounds into the 190's too. Oh, the only reason I surivived vs the 190's for that long was that they had blanks loaded... -Stark IP: Logged | |
