Kind of a repeat question, but the other topic dealt with Max, and I'm using AC-3D.

Some of the parts of the Corsair appear "darker" than the other parts. I did make some of them using mirror image, i.e. right wing is just a duplicate of the left wing flipped. I thought I read that you could mess something up that way, but I can't find the post now.

It textures OK, but still have some sections that look "dull" and some that are "bright." I suppose I could just change the colors on the .tif, but that seems like the coward's way out...

Any ideas from an AC3D type?

Make sure all the normal are facing the right way, and flip them for individual polys as necessary. If a poly turns black, change its vertex order. If you still have dark patches, select the whole object and flip it's normals a couple of times. You may find flipping from one sided to two side and back may help as well.

Another cause of this problem is where a wing is made of multiple parts. If you have a poly on the edge - a sort of cross section of the wing - where the parts join, get rid of it.

OK that worked pretty well! Couple of spots I couldn't get to change, but I was able to cut and paste sections from the opposite (correctly-shaded) wing.

Thanks!

Choose 3D -> show normals.

Now look at the directions, do they all go the corect way? If not, select each vertext of the offending poly and choose "flip normals"

The normals get screwy when you flip objects...

When I mirrored my left wing to my right wing, it essentially got turned inside out so I had to flip all the normals on all the polys. In 3dsmax there is a wrap called "Normals" that you can use to do this dunno about AC3D.

AC3D does invert all the normals, but oddly, I couldn't flip them back properly, so I ended up taking the offending side and making it 2 sided.
