So, it seems lots of folks are animating the parts of their planes. We have Lewis guns, canopies, swing-wings, arrestor hooks, soon some folding wings and who knows, drogue refueling booms for A-6 tankers to hook up to the F-14

But of course none of these things work without a keyboard command. Which is in the keyboard.inp file that you include with your new plane. Which overwrites the existing file in my game. Which had all of MY animation commands in it. See where I'm goin here?

We need to have some sort of standard, I reckon, to make upgrading as painless as possible. For instance, I mapped my cannon to the C key so I could program my joystick, but you may have C opening your canopy. What should we use?

As near as I can tell...

Q or U opens the canopy on most of the aftermarket planes.

W sweeps the wings on the F-14 (and W is gonna fold the wings on the Corsair, if it hairlips ever livin person on Bear Creek!)

A is gonna lower the arresting hook, unless somebody else already has an arresting hook on some other letter.

U makes the Lewis gun elevate (and I'd like to see SV make a separate key for firing JUST the Lewis gun--I've got C firing the outboard guns on the Corsair and the Mustangs, even though they're the same KIND of guns).

Anyway, you get the idea. I propose everyone post the commands they plan to use for animations or unusual weapons, etc, so we can standardize em as much as possible.

Here's mine (so far)

C fires cannon (no "native" command in the sim)
U opens canopy
W folds wings
A toggles arresting hook

Any more? Any different? (note where you changed the sim's default or added one the sim didn't have).

Someone has already written a new Keyboard.inp that includes many new commands. Off hand I dont know where to get it, you may want to try fshangar.

cmdCanopyToggle = Q
cmdCatapultToggle = C
cmdSpeedbrakeToggle = Shift S
cmdWingsweepToggle = W
cmdSlatsToggle = Alt F
cmdTailhookToggle = R

Here's mine and my thinking behind them. Q for the canopy because it was already chosen. W makes sense for anything with the wings (sweep/folding, etc). Shift - S for speedbrake, again I think another decent choice, not too confusing. Alt - F for slats I think is perfect. You have F and shift - F for flaps, so an alternate flap is slats, so alt - f. Tailhook was tough since we can't use A, A is for autopilot. So I thought R (meaning like REVERSE!) when you slam the deck and catch a wire. The C for catapult... eventually we WILL have working cats in this game so that was the logical choice. It'll tie in perfectly with the Tomcat and work on a delay. The Tomcat does it's gear lowering crouch thing and then, POOF the cat fires. I can't wait to see this.

I hope this all makes sense.

Jedi, the part about the A-6? That's the plan. A working drog line that comes out, and a refueler prob from all the navy planes I plan on doing to hook up to it in mock refuels. One thing though, the AI needs tweaking because it seems there are times where they don't hold their throttle settings smoothly. I know they are holding airspeeds but I wish they could have a setting where it's very stable. Oh well, it's still the most fun I've had flying a Tomcat in ANY game! Ah the power of OpenPlane!

The keyboard file I think you are talking about is in a zip file called "key991116.zip".
I think I found it at the OPP site?
It says to register a key e-mail 'Jamescuppy@aol.com'.

I have experienced similar crossed key problems, so it would be good to use the one standard map.

Goodpoint jedi, I have thought about that. I will make the Lewis gun able to fired seperatly as well as together.

Did someone say KEYBOARD COMMAND STANDARD???

This is the URL to the "OPP's Standard" for keyboard commands....
http://www.fshangar.com/area51/key991116.zip

User Registered Commands currently include; Arrestor Hook, Folding Wings, Sweep Wings, Dive Brakes, Engine Tilt, Canopy Position, Door Position

The file has these commands already in an included keyboard.inp file and a Microsoft WORD format Doublesided Command Card with all the new commands not listed on the box card.

Also included is an alphabetical list of all commands reserved by Parasoft's original release, patch 1.5 and "registered" by users to date.

Check out this file... then if anyone has need for new commands not already in the list, send them to me and I'll update and re-release the package.

Best Regards, Ronin
