The last two packages I got from the states via UPS showed up opened.. like really open. If you turned them upside down something would fall out. I'm glad everything made it through ok. Do they do this to stuff they send across the border? TS

Well, I got it, but I don't GET it So...will Creator load an .sm file? If I build something with Creator, will OPS recognize it? It looks neat and all, but does it interface with the models in the sim? If not, it's gonna take me 2 months just to figure out how to use it--2 months I don't have --jedi IP: Logged |

Hey, I guess this could be our "this is what I've done in MG thread" I've been learning the book today and it seems pretty easy so far. I LOVE the DOF tools! It has what I've been bugging Bryan about, animated DOF positioning, you see it animate whatever part you are working on... WAY COOL! Have you guys seen the gallery folder yet (inside main MG dir)... THAT A-10 IS GORGEOUS! I'm gonna enter it in the contest! (just kidding... ). There are some other planes in there as well but the A-10 blows my mind. Guys, hit Cntrl-M (for highest detail LODs, and Cntrl-L for lowest). Heck I may just do my F-14 cockpit with this program. It even does tape gauges (you know, like engine instruments, straight up and down). I'm happy so far. Thanks for arranging this deal Michael [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 01-24-2000).] IP: Logged |

Oddly, I was expecting it to do LOD for me. I've looked it over and it appears that it is a 3D database program with rather straight forward editting tools. I've not installed the program, but I have read through the manual a bit. Nice tutorials, BTW.IP: Logged |

On the CD... FreeStuff\Largescenes\A-10Cockpit\cockpit.fltThis cockpit is bringing tears to my eyes! Wow! Now I feel like I may be able to do a nice F-14 Cockpit, and all the other modern ones I have in mind. Guys, if you don't already have it, get this program and you can easily view all the Flt files on the disc without opening them up in MG. http://www.xdsoft.com/explorer/

How do you see objects with textures? I imported the parsoft Fokker DR1a just like it said in the readme file. I see the Fokker nice, but only wire frame. About 20 mins. of poking around yielded no answers...Creator still confuses me I get the data aspect of it, but I don't quite understand its 3D modeling approach. Can anyone explain how it is same/different than AC3D? Thanks, -Sv IP: Logged |

I wonder how long it will take until someone makes a new terrain using Creator. IP: Logged |

If I understand the tutorials correctly from reading them, each face exists as its own database entity. I've not even loaded it up, but I might do it after I get the Viper done (just need to model the fusion reactor, canopy, and cockpit). Oddly, I don't recall a 'import' tutorial in the book that came along with the product. That is the limit of my knowledge on how Creator treats faces thus far.You might want to see if the faces have the right normal direction. TS3 is notoriously bad for doing the 'random normal facings' on most faces, that or the model was done with 2 sided polygons.... I am using AC3D to do the Viper and have found annoying bugs (like occasionally the edit mode will go from 'Move/Size' to 'Rotate', the keyboard state gets confused, ie it thinks the shift is on or remaps keyboard commands). Aside from that, it is quite functional for $40. Now when is the next beta coming out?? IP: Logged |

I have been loving AC3D except for so many nast little bugs. Still worth much more than $40, but the bugs can make you sad! I save after every change LOL. Especialy merging objects - sometimes it will merge unselected hidden objects! Then you are screwed! Back to tstep 1 Also it won't show textures every time in the ortho window - using the 3D window to map textures sucks and takes about 10X longer. If you load/unload the texture 10 times, then go to 3D window, then back to ortho, then set ortho as wire-frame - then set ortho as filled w/textures it might show the texture for you. Also on my system I need to fire up the free demo first, then the new beta, then kill the free demo, then kill the beta, then bring up the beta again for it to work at all. I must spend about 1/2 my dev time on AC3D rituals - but I still love it! Heheh... I guess you like what you know -Sv IP: Logged |

I used to know TriSpectives, a solid modeller, from 3DEye, then I knew some of TS3, but then I started playing more with AC3D. Once you get past the terminology differences, it does have a lot of bells and whistles. Andy appears to be alive, since he has been keeping his site up. IP: Logged |

SV it seems on my system the XY view always shows the texture but the other ortho windows never do. I just rotate my part correctly to be in the XY plane, apply the texture, and rotate it back. Works fine so far.IP: Logged |
