Heya all,

The DVII project has been moving right along.
So I thought I might offer some screen shots to tease you all with

This is the most current model. It features a JG2, Jasta 15 skin. Based on Georg von Hantelmann's plane. This version is quit a change from even the last model we sent out. Raider has been making great progress with the FM and I think many of you will be pleased with his efforts.

Also in this version is a new look for the cockpit. Needs to be fixed just a bit and have a few things added, but you get the general idea.

For a history of the project and more sreen shots check out this link:

More to come!

Heya Nuum,

Thanks I'm not sure exactly when it will be released. Maybe a small beta group before the end of the contest. I sent a model out to a few, one that was actually 3 versions old and havnt heard much back yet. Raider and I are hoping to do a little online testing in the near future.

Hmm as for the next plane. I'm not sure yet. It will either be the Spad 13 or the Nieuport 28. Something for the 94th Pursuit squad. Being a Yank its got to be either a USAS or Escadrille Americaine plane

Looks great!!!

The cockpit is a big plus! I'm working on the Albatros cockpit now... this is where my lack of 3D editing skills are showing up

I'm so glad you picked the DVII, it is such an important plane and you guys are doing such a bang up job! Keep it comin'

Zoy,

WOW! I particularly like your cockpit. Are those dials going to replace the ones in the Fokker and the SE5a?

Zoycite,

I just checked out the DVII site, cool!

Couple of questions:

I am very curious about what you guys are doing with airfoils, especialy the rudder. Did it work? I am working to bring the SE5a to FM spec - I'm on the prop right now. Any hints on airfoils stuff would be great!

Also, how did you do the leather bit around the cockpit? Did you modify the Fokker DR1's or did you do it from scratch? I need to add this to my SE5a and my Albatros...

We should plan on doing final FM testing on the DVII/SE5a/Albatros/Etc kinda together like so that at least they compare. What do you think? Then at least we can practise real WWI ACM pretty good. So at least fast planes are faster than slow planes. good climbers outclimb bad climbers, and turn rates are somewhat relative. Any thoughts on this?

Maybe its too hard... I am doing allot of work just to get the SE5a closer to spec.. maybe it gets easier as you go?

I am SOOO excited about the DVII.. I can't wait! I got it as a desktop picture on my system

SV, I am working on some of the FM stuff with Zoycite. I too think it would be a great idea for all the WW I guys to compare data on the planes performance and share FM information. I will prepare some information on what we did and post it a little later. I am pretty proud of the plane we built.

When Zoy said he wanted the plane to have a max speed of 130 mhp and a climb rate of 3000 feet in 1:30 I did not think it could be done. With a lot of work and testing I think we got it right on.

And I would like to say that you are the one that inspired us. Thanks you.

Heya Sv,

As for the airfoil on the rudder, its still being tuned. Really you might want to direct the question to Raider. He is the DVII's FM guru What we are finding is that the rudder dosnt have enough effect on the plane. You yaw one way and it stops. So Raider thought that adding an airfoil to it might help.

As was stated on the site, the basic FM core is real close. And now its time to add the final tweaks and goodies.

What I did for the CP was made a new object out of my DVII fuse, more or less cut the cp section to an object. Then scaled it down a hair so as it could fit in side the fuse. Its still difficult to get a precise fit. And then try to line it up in OPS. Makes for alot of building back and forth. For the leather, I just followed the DR1 cp and made a vertical face for it to map to. The texture layout is the same as the DRI, I just modified it to add new wood and componets.

Ahh, Just saw Raider beat me to the post.

Anyhow we were hoping to doing the exact type of testing that you and Raider (posted like just a second ago) are talking about.

I personally feel that like Raider said, we will all benefit from a data base from which we could all work from and learn from. Also at the same time, setting a standard from which to base future planes.

One concern that I have had through this whole thing has been that "wow look those SDOE WWI birds look real nice, but fly like a bleepen bleepity bleep. Once we get some
attetion from other gaming comunities it would be nice if we can produce a complete package and keep new players coming in. Namely the RB3d guys.

Perhaps we should set up a online meeting of just the WWI guys for some testing, note sharing and fun.

Just let me know what you think.
