Hello,This thread is for people working on Projects Russian, Japanese and/or Italian Nation to post updates on progress. If you have questions about these projects, please either email me or read the following threads: Project Russian Nation: http://www.fightersquadron.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000193.html Project Italian/Japanese Nations: http://www.fightersquadron.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000217.html ...and now for the news: Tailslide has sent his friend the calls script and posted it at a few russian messsage boards. Gterl is in charge of making the Italian-language calls. One Mr. Holmes has offered to do this as well, so should gterl be unable to make the calls, we have a back up. In the meantime I have asked Mr. Holmes to make the calls in english with an Italian accent. Siggi is in charge of making the Japanese-language calls. He has run into some difficulty with his recording software, so if anyone knows where you can get a free app online, please email him. There have been no other offers for Japan to date. Jeeves is assisting in project coordination and is also preparing squadrons so that once the radio calls are finished they can be combined with his squads to form a complete 'nations' package. ------------------ Do you support SDOE online? Speaking of, it would be nice if you could select the language. Although hearing the Russian class is certainly a neato prospect, they don't hold a lot of information for me.One solution would be to select the language file you'd like to use for any particular country. Another way (much better IMHO) is to record the same sayings by a Russian (Italian etc.) speaking speaking English. This is what they did for the Polish Airborne in Close Combat, and it worked very well. So, any chance you could get those words at the same time? Maury IP: Logged |

UPDATE - Gterl informs me recording of the Italian-language wavs is underway, and no difficulties have been encountered. Note that once those files are recorded and sent to me, I have to add radio clicks to the beginning and end of each of them before repackaging. UPDATE - The Folder war continues, and General Jeeves is struggling gallantly to make it all work, so the next time you come across him in the forum --> SALUTE! UPDATE- Gterl sent me two sample wavs from the forthcoming Italian set tonight. I edited them (as much as is possible with my limited software) and added the radio clicks to each end. You can listen to the samples at the urls provided below. Also, the ease with which I was able to add the radio clicks is amazing! I feared a bottleneck of hundreds of files needing editing, but I figure I'll be able to turn out 60-100 per hour, so that shouldn't be a problem. If anyone has any wav editing software, though, and thinks they can do a better job making it sound 'older', please speak up - I'm using MS stuff bundled with windows, no great shake. http://members.xoom.com/fs_catp/combat01.wav http://members.xoom.com/fs_catp/combat02.wav Great work Gterl!! With the help of Poodle and Lector and a little squadron making of my own- the Japan folder should be done today. I have 4 squadrons- those on the Kaga, Akagi, Soryu, and Hiryu- and thanks to Poodle and Lector- the folder works pretty well.UPDATE: The Soviet folder is pretty much in the hands of Zoy now (I think)- I sent him squadrons, medals, and am about to send him ranks (in case he doesn't have them already). As far as Project Italy- the new wav files are lighting a fire under my butt. I just need to know how many squadrons to make- it is hard as no one is working on any Italian planes now. I'll start by making one fighter, one fighter/bomber, and one heavy bomber squadron. I have medals and have to still find ranks. This one won't be easy to test though as I have no planes- I'll have to put a current one in to try- maybe one of the 109 variants. I'll keep you all posted! IP: Logged |

Don't forget the Aussies !!I think Werner or Jeeves were going to work on this when the other countries were complete ....but anyway I couldn't wait so I've started. I have created an Australia country - pretty easy to do as the ranks and medals are the same as the poms (and a big thanks to Lector - his instructions are very good). I have also created some squadrons (1,2 and 460 Sqn's so far) and intend to do another 4 (3,5,25 and 75 Sqn's). Ribbons ? to be done but that shouldn't be hard ... should have results soon. Sound ? well, I have no recording equipment so somebody else will have to take care of that. Aircraft ? there are already a few Aust Spit skins around and a Mosq. I have just finished a skin for an Aust P51d and 95% completed a Lanc (G for George - 460 Sqn). We'll have to wait for the results of the contest for others. I'm looking forward to the Pacific theatre very much. I hope my contributions will help bring it ahead.... even if just a tad. If there's a central coord person for this, please contact me and I'll forward my work when appropriate. I love this program !! AGAS - Please send your stuff to Poodle and me once you're finished. I'm coordinating, but Poodle probably needs it to add to the master zip file. The arrangement we've agreed on is that Poodle will add folder structure to the zip files and as more nations are completed, I will add the sound files and release them via the BCATP and other sites. Jeeves deserves (a medal) and a break after all the work he's done on these three countries, so AGAS, it looks like I'll be coordinating Australia with you pretty soon here. It sounds like you've got the matter well in hand, but when it comes to the final packaging and release of the files, Poodle and I have come up with a way that will reduce the number and size of user downloads to an optimal level, so that part of this project will need to be done as a group effort. Keep up the great work everybody! Werner ------------------ Do you support SDOE online? Email Werner to be listed in SDOE's online phonebook today! IP: Logged |

Update time. This has gotten so big so fast that it is going to take a little time to restructure and regroup the team. It seems that because of our increased size, progress is suffering on account of miscommunication. I'll post in a day or so with my plan to remedy the situation. In the meantime Siggi informs me we'll have some Japanese samples soon and the rest close behind those. The group working on english with the Italian accent says that will get done in May, but unless an angry mob with torches, pitch forks and rude chants breaks down my door I'm going to go with it and work on other nations in the mean time. I still haven't heard back with gterl, and although it's probably just my paranoia, I'm afraid he's t-ed off at me. Gterl! Send me something! Please! I'm dyin' here! We should do it without the THE of the Soviet Union. All the SDOE countries are without THE. Also we shouldn't do the French with Le, La, Les or L'. It's just Etats Unis, not L'Etats Unis. I agree with Zoy- all my squadrons as set up as "Soviet Union" files. It would be too much to redo stuff that works perfectly well with all the nations with work still to be done IMHO.Poodle- I have three Italian Squadrons done: 151st Squadriglia- flew Macchi MC. 202's 20th Fighter Squadron- flew Fiat G. 50 Freccia's (with Daimler-Benz engines ) 6th Independent Fighter Squadron- which also flew Macchi's...200's and 202's. I picked these as they seemed to be the best planes the Italians had...most were completely outclassed. [This message has been edited by Jeeves (edited 01-29-2000).] IP: Logged |

Progress update on Australia.....Squadrons. Looking good, I think you will be impressed. Looking into adding either 79, 452 or 457 Sqn's as I haven't got any spits in there yet (a crime not to do !). Ribbons (Campaign Medals). Also looking good. Aust didn't hand out many Campaign Medals back then. Have ten completed though. Perhaps we should just use the pommy ones and save these for the Pacific theatre missions - what do ya think ? Medals (Decorations). Big problem here. Originaly I was going to just use the pommy ones (because our decorations were the same) but after taking another look I decided that the old Union Jack sitting next to the decoration just wouldn't do. I'm finding it difficult to say the least trying to replicate these with an Aust flag. Anyone have any ideas....I use Gimp for my graphics. Scramble Missions. Not started yet. Last job on the list. No difficulties expected. Probably will do: a)Spit V's Zero b)P51d V's Zero c)Mosq V's Zero d)some various Europe/Africa Theatre missions. Sounds. As per my previous comments someone else will have to takle this. Any other Aussies out there want to help with the voice sounds ? I'd like to see the accent done right ! Heya all,The "Soviet Union" files, folders and art are done. Now when the sounds are complete I can easily add these. After that we need some planes!! Poodle, Its just "Soviet Union" not "The Soviet Union" The "The" in the above post was just the start of the sentence. Agas, What I did for the flag was this: First I wasnt happy with any I found on the net, so I made my own. After doing this I made a template using the background (tan) color of an exsisting medal bmp. On top of this I placed my new flag. Next I used the eraser, set to 50% and removed the amount of color I wanted. After doing this I then set the oppacity of this layer to 75% and Viola! Its a medal template Now you can just add your medals using this template. Here is a pic of the finished product. Cool huh? A big thanks goes to Jeeves for his work on the squads and research. Also to Tail and Werner. Thanks guys! After doing this project, I realized that someone will have to get everyones "String Table" ppf's and create a master ppf containing all the new nations in one file. If not, all the different versions will overwrite the last. Also this may have an impact on other projects aswell. Just something to think about. Tailslide, Do you want to get together to do a "White Rose of Stalingrad" pilot model? Guess thats it till the sounds are complete. ------------------ Zoycite {GS} GUNSLINGERS

Zoycite - Nice work! Do you mind if I scoop the above pic and modify it somewhat to replace the pathetic excuse for a soviet banner in the BCATP hangar? AGAS - Here's the deal on the stringtable.ppf: Originally I thought that we could add all the countries we planned on adding to the st.ppf file, and then as we completed a country it would show up in the game. Not so. Right now two versions of this file are floating around between Poodle, Jeeves and myself - one with Japan added and one with Japan, Soviet Union and Italy added (Jeeves, I hope I sent you the right one in that big package tonight - if it isn't, don't worry: those three countries will be done soon enough). Anyhow, that whole deadline thing on the main forum is now pointless, since Poodle and I have agreed to adopt a "one new nation, one new stringtable.ppf" policy (for lack of a better term). To everyone in this project: You guys are doing fantastic work, keep it up. Please refrain, however, from releasing betas online. As was demonstrated by Pete's Zeppelin incident, these files are best beta tested within our team before being released once 100% complete and bug-free. This is important because with a number of people running projects parallel to each other, we have to be careful that the .ppf files of one group do not overwrite the .ppf of another group on an end user's HD. If that were to happen, then at least one of us would have to shift from development to damage control, and I really don't think that's what we need or want. Poodle, Jeeves and I are the main project coordinators on this, so once you have files you would like added to the main release file, please email them to Poodle, Jeeves and myself. I'm not trying to put a crimp in anyone's style, or become some kind of Machiavellian tyrant, but I felt after a few days of internal deliberations that this was worth posting before any 'accident' should occur. This really shouldn't even affect the work you guys are doing, it's just a request from the project leads to follow a procedure that will ensure the highest quality and user friendliness of our end product. Werner Molders P.S. If you are working on a nations project, please make sure you either let me know by email or have posted on this thread, because the Japan release, once complete (only a couple days now) will be sent to you guys as a thank-you for your hard work a few days before it is publicly released. ------------------ Do you support SDOE online?
