I found a page with weights, dimensions, and armament for the Viper. The catch was the armament. I've no recollection of the Viper being shown packing 2 20 megaton warheaded torpedos or 4 bombs in the show, so I have no reference to go off of for their implementation on my model. Should I go for a strap on (don't get excited kopper) approach with some sort of enclosed rocket launcher slung under the aft section of the Viper or simply sling them ala WWII rockets? The same question goes for the bombs. Things to consider, the Viper is launched resting on its belly from a dual track arrangement down sort of a triagular tube. I think http://www.battlestargalactica.com/ has pictures of the launching arangement. I'll dig up a picture of the Viper for those closet cases who haven't seen it yet. IP: Logged |

There was (will be?) also a two-seat version, and all models have tricycle landing gear (composite skid with wheels) for conventional landing and takeoff. The Viper appears not to be capable of VTOL like an X-Wing or Y-Wing, but I can't say that with certainty. The hangars on the battlestars do have some sort of emergency barricade arresting gear. The Monogram model fires a missile from its "nose scoop," but I never saw one actually launch anything in the series. But, since the entire Strike Wing of the Galactica appeared to consist of Vipers, one would assume some capacity for anti-ship weaponry was included. Probably need a LandRam at some point to duke it out with the Panzers too ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

The nose thingy is what most sites agree to be a ram scoop of some sort for atmospheric flight. The two seated versoin appeared in Battlestar Galactica 1980, or the attempt by ABC to start producing BG cheaper after they cancelled it in 1979. I think someone referenced is as a Viper A model (acutally a Viper Mk.IIA, with the normal TV version being a Mk.II, a total fighter version being a Mk.I and a TBD version being a Mk.III, but the Mk designations were from a boardgame/strategy game). Of note, the Raider is attributed to have a manuverability of Class A and as noted above the Viper a Class C. I've not found any reference as to what a Class X is but I have found a manuverability rate off of the 2nd link. The Raider is allegedly more manuverable than the Viper in an atmospheric fight due to it's tight configuration. I am just wondering if perhaps a wingtip or mid wing enclosed missle arrangement might be the best approach for now.... IP: Logged | |
