I don't seem to be getting an uncompressed tif after runn untiff. I copy the untiff.exe and the compressed tif into a "working" file, open the untiff.exe in a DOS window by highlighting the untiff.exe then opening the Start-Run, typing in "command" and hit enter.
The untiff.exe appears to be functional.
I type the following: untiff AlbatrossDVa.tif AlbatrossDVaUNTF.tif
I then hit enter - the program seems to work, but I don't have a AlbatrossDVaUNTF in the folder and the original still seems compressed.
Your expertise in solving this will be greatly appreciated!

I create a directory called c:\tifs. Then I put the untif.exe program there along with the files I want to untif. Then I bring up the DOS command promt and change to the tifs directory (cd c:\tifs) - now I type: untiff filea.tif fileb.tif

This should work fine.

Are you trying to untif one of the textures from my AlbatrosDva? If so note that I do not use AlbatrosDva.tif at all in the plane. I use wings.tif for all of the wings, and fuses.tif for the fuselege and tail.

Hope this helps...

You may want to try the more recent tiffcp utility at openplane.com.

Thanks SV and Michael, I'll try both suggestions. Yes SV, I was hoping to paint your DVa as I'm a WWI enthusiast, esp. the Germans, they're a painter's dream! I've been a Red Baron 3D freak for quite some time, the RB3D community has many similarities with the SDOE community... enthusiasm, dedication, innovation to name but a few. The users of these sims, through hard work by dedicated individuals, have really managed to vastly improve on the released version of both sims. I'm trying to learn OP so that I too may contribute. S!

Michael, I'm getting a "error 403, not authorised" when I try to dload the tiffcp. May be my server, it's been buggy lately. Is there another site or, failing that, would you email me the file?

Thanks

rkdodge,

Great! I spend allot of extra time trying to map the textures good so that new skins can be created. Let me know if you have any problems/suggestions and I'll incorporate it into my Albatros.

Right now the only things not textured the way it will be in the final version are: wheels, cockpit interior, cockpit guages.

rkdodge, This is a great media viewing tool that makes viewing and untiffing the textures in SDOE very easy.

You can see the textures before you untiff them or use the batch coverter to untiff a whole directory. (Very fast)

It is called IrfanView. It is a small download @ 500k and it is Free.

Hope it helps you.

Thanks Raider! What a great program, especially for we who are DOS challenged.
To "untiff", I assume that you use the tif save as option "none" or no compression... yes?
Maybe a posting in the general section would alert more people to the availability of Irfanviewer.

Your welcome rkdodge, I was very suprised at the power of this little program. I use the slide show to show all the screenshots that I have taken in SDOE. Very Cool.

Several ways to do the untiff. Fastest and easiest is to just open the texture in irfanview, copy it and paste it into your paint program. Or, as you said to open it and save it. The option default is set for LZW and that works for me, if it does not work in your paint program the change it to none. Then all you have to do is open and save.

You can untiff the whole directory or select just a few files in it by doing a batch conversion. You will find that under the File menu. This is very fast.

Thanks for the suggestion to put info about the program in the General Forum. I did. We have Royohboy to think for this, He first suggested it.

Hey Raider,

you're welcome :-) IMHO Irfanview is simply the best image viewer around.
