Hi guys. I'm one of those types that likes to start projects, but rarely has the impetus to finish them. I have a model railroad in my basement that is 90% finished and has been like that for about 7 years. I'm 10% started on a wood-and-pvc-pipe replica of a Bren Gun. You get the point... In any case, I was thinking about seeing what this OP hoopla is all about, and I've decided my test bed will be to build a Jeep. The problem is I don't want to shell out lots of money if I'm not going to use it, so I was wondering if anyone knows a 3D modelling software that is free. I went to the AC3D site, and saw that the demo is free, but what good is it if you can't save anything? Thanks, Werner ------------------ Do you support SDOE online? I just searched the web a bit and found this: www.fl.net.au/~neville/ ...thats not so much - but maybe it works (you will need xroads to convert the output format(s) to obj format - also I dont know whats with textures and such stuff... IP: Logged |

Thanks Laika. I've downloaded the app and I'm playing around with it now. Already though, I feel like a traveller in a strange land - vrml? xroads? obj format? Maybe I should stick to websites. Laika, have you worked with this one before? Do you know that it'll work with FS? I have a sneaky feeling when using it that all I'm doing is making pretty pictures...Werner ------------------ Do you support SDOE online? Email Werner to be listed in SDOE's online phonebook today! IP: Logged |

I used the modeller some months ago (related to povray work). You should be able to build up your meshes/geometry with it and then you can export this to dxf or vrml format. With the xroads converter you now can convert these formats to obj (wavefront) format and this should (will) work with OPS.OK ? IP: Logged |

Thanks Laika, I'll keep plugging away at it. One more thing, though, how do you model to scale in Breeze?Werner "JEEP OR BUST!" ------------------ Do you support SDOE online? Email Werner to be listed in SDOE's online phonebook today! IP: Logged |

I tried to do the file conversion in reverse so that I could edit the model of the Funkytruck, but OPS wouldn't let me save in anything other than sm format. Is there a way to save the model in obj format? Thanks, Werner P.S. Laika, I hope you're feeling better soon! ------------------ Do you support SDOE online? I think you can just select the part whose 3d model u want to edit, and export it (forget which menu item, object perhaps)IP: Logged |
