For everyone (but especially Zoy and TS):I've emailed MH a request for the list of calls, since I figure he might have it on record from the development days of SDOE. I have yet to hear from him, so while I wait I'm cooking up a plan B. As soon as my tests permit me, I'm going to try and log some hours in british planes looping a formation of unarmed Ju88s, hoping to hear the pilot make as many calls as possible. I figure I can deduce the permutations of the numbers and words (I think I know them already, I'm just trying to confirm my theory). That being said, I have yet another idea. If we can pack all this stuff together into the appropriate format to make a soviet nation for SDOE, can't we unpack the british or american ones? I'm not familiar enough with how data is stored in the game to be more specific, but I think the principle is sound. Is this (the last idea) reasonable? Can it be done? On parsoft's website there is tools to 'unbig' the .par files into seperate files. You'll probably find the sounds files in one of the .par files I don't know which one. TS

I think data3.par has the ingame calls, and data4.par has the music and sounds for the menus. I just read about this yesterday from the docs at OPP area51. You might want to double check But if my memory serves me right, data3.par is the one to open. Did someone (who is interested in the Soviet nation thing) allready find a russian native speaker ? Maybe I can find some here in town to do the radio calls.I´m very interested in the soviet nation folder cause I plan to deliver more soviet aircraft by time (a "soviet builder/constructer/programmer/whatever team" would also be nice). Heya,I'm just about to a point where I can start working on this. If by the time I can start and no calls have been unbigged, I can do this. I still think the calls should be in english with a Russian accent. ------------------ Zoycite {GS} GUNSLINGERS visit The War Paint Factory IP: Logged |

Ya know guys, with all these Pacific planes coming out (Dauntless, Wildcat, Corsair...) maybe at the same time we are playing with a Soviet Nation, someone could work on a Japanese one as well? I just hate flying that beautiful Zero and hearing German...IP: Logged |

Jeeves- As self-appointed coordinator of this mess, I was going to get a Japan team together once Russia is finished. If, however, you'd like to get one going now, go for it! Laika - Tailslide has a contact that will provide the wav files, but thanks for the offer. Question: If person A has a russian folder with wav files in english (russian accent) and person B has a russian folder with wav files in russian, will it cause a mismatch online? Call me a nitpicker, but if my German planes speak to me in German, I'd kinda like my Russian planes to speak to me in Russian, although I know I'm probably a minority in this. Tailslide- would you mind making two sets of wavs? (assuming it doesn't cause a mismatch online) Thanks, Werner P.S. I'm going to finish the hangar section of the BCATP friday night. If I have time to, I'll try to figure out the tools as well. Because of exams, that's really all the time I can afford on this project until next friday night. Sounds don't cause mismatches on-line. I long ago replaced the German calls with the English ones on my PC. I practice offline with no HUD so understanding the bogie calls is important to me - I do speak broken German but by the time my brain can translate a German bogie call it is too late to react properly. -Stark [This message has been edited by Stark (edited 01-13-2000).] IP: Logged |

Werner-If I knew anything about this stuff- I probably would. But I'll leave it in your capable hands- I only wish there was a tutorial on this sort of thing so maybe I could learn how to do it I would really like it done in time for my Midway campaign's release . Werner - yes I think two sets of waves is a good idea. I'd prefer english with a russian accent so I can understand them but it shouldn't cause a conflict. Same thing for german if any german speakers on the forum are interested in doing a german set? TS

Stark - Thanks.Tailslide - I'm glad you feel the same way. It's no problem getting two sets made then? Jeeves - I'll make mental notes as I'm going along, and if its complicated enough to warrant a webpage (I don't think it would need more than one) I'll approach SV about getting it posted at his site, since he's sorta the king of tutorials. If it isn't that complicated, once I'm finished I'll email you and guide you through the process. The only problem with this is that my work is done once I get a list of the calls. Tail is going to get new sounds recorded and then I think it was Zoy who offered to put it all together in a new folder (correct me if I'm wrong). So really, Zoycite is probably the one who is doing the stuff you'll have questions about. Downloading the tools now... Werner ------------------ Do you support SDOE online? Wow that was easy! There are 63 wavs in all. I've found something, though, the sound files all have short radio static at the beginning and the end of the files (like when you use Roger Wilco). Will you be able to recreate this? Also, does it make any difference to you if I write all the 63 calls out to you or just send you a zip (858Kb) with the files for Britain included, or post it on the BCATP (I won't link it graphically, just give you the url) so that you can download it at your leisure? I'd rather not spend all that time writing it out if it doesn't make a difference. Thanks! Werner ------------------ Do you support SDOE online? Heya,Soviet Air Force. And in Russian, "Voyenno-Vozdushniye Sily" To the best of my knowledge. For a good read go here: http://www.elknet.pl/bcross-rstar/ What I'd like to see is the "White Rose of Stalingrad" Lilya Litvyak. A WWII ace. There were many women that flew in combat for the Soviet Union. Many served with honor and great skill. So maybe a model of a women pilot might be fitting. ------------------ Zoycite {GS} GUNSLINGERS visit The War Paint Factory IP: Logged |

Assuming its clear enough, the next step is recording! Also, I received an interesting email tonight from a fellow who sent me a wav file of Roosevelt addressing the American people after Pearl Harbour, in anticipation of the Pacific Theatre and Japanese Nation Project. Yes, it was I that volunteered to put this together. Still a little busy at the moment. Actually the hardest part will be getting all the pieces togeter. Voices,New Pilot lods and textures, Medals (I can paint the medals, I just need some photos) and some more research for squads and the like. After that, putting it all together should be pretty easy.I second the vote for a Female voice. Nothing sexier that a lady calling bogeys with a Russian accent Werner, Yes we can re create the static/mic clicks.
Jeeves, I'll have a look at your squadron and mail you. Would you be interested in doing the Soviet Squads? I vote a again for a female voice ------------------ Zoycite {GS} GUNSLINGERS visit The War Paint Factory IP: Logged |

Zoy-Sure- if you give me some info as to what squadrons you'd like to see done- I could put some together. I just made 2 new American squadrons yesterday for the Pacific- one based off the USS Enterprise (McClusky's group at Midway)and one based off the USS Yorktown. One problem I have having though is finding squadron insignia for the Enterprise group Preliminary research shows me three Russian Squadrons- 1) for the Yak-3, I have the 303 Fighter Aviation Division of the V-VS (Soviet Air Force)- and a pic of the plane does have someone's markings that I could use as insignia. 2) For the Lavochkin La-5FN, I have the 159th Gv (Guards) IAP of the V-VS. 3) For the Ilyushin Il-2M3, I have the 566th Shturmovik Aviation Squadron, 277th Shturmovik Aviation Division, Frontal Aviation of the V-VS. Whew! Big words! If you have some ideas of specific planes and squadrons that you all want to do, I start working on creating squadrons for them. IP: Logged |
