Heres the latest pic of the F4F-4 Wildcat. The exterior is done, for the most part. I decided to try texturing it, using sv's openplane tutorial. (Which btw sv is great) The problem is, even after i select "remap texture coordinates" i get the texture squished onto the part im modelling. Heres a example of me trying to texture the cowl. sv's tutorial did a wing as an example, rather than a round fuselage, but i know its got to be possible anyone have any vague guesses as to what im doing wrong? Heya Falck,I dont think shape is your problem here. Did you create a cut away object of the cowling? If so, did you merge it with your texture poly? As opposed to just selecting both. If you have done this then what I have ran into is when I try to remap cords, I have to keep the texture poly and object merged. Then delete my polygon and remerge my object to the plane. Also after removing the texture polygon, it may seem that the texture is gone. Simply select your object and the re load the texture. It should appear jsut as it did when the texture poly was there. Oops forgot this, Are you having to rotate the image to get it to line up? If so, try just rotating your cut away object instead of the texture poly. Once in position, merge them and load your texture. Not sure that helps, ------------------ Zoycite {GS} GUNSLINGERS visit The War Paint Factory IP: Logged |

I see allot of people building their whole plane in AC3D - how well does that work? I can not imagine trying to edit more than one LOD at a time, not to mention texturing! I get so confused now - I end up with a wing LOD broke into many objects for texturing - then add the square texture stretching object - then merging back into a single object and move to origin for LOD export.Maybe you use groups to organize the LODS? Anyway, looking great Falck! Glad you found my info helpful... ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE! IP: Logged |

Why would you merge the texture poly with the object? I've never done that. Did you remember to load the texture onto the selected polys before remapping? Can't think of anything else.IP: Logged |

SV, Autocad 2000 was a little easier for me to build the fuselage and wings with. I built the wireframe structure with it, and applied the mesh, then i exported to ac3d to finish it up. The tail was done completely in ac3d. Just dragged a 1 x 1 or 1 x 2 mesh out, added some verts and lined it up right, then mirrored it to make the other side of the plane.Michael, I didnt do it before and got the result in that pic above. I have only been using ac3d for a week so im going with what works for now

The only other thing I can think of is that you may have been in object mode instead of vertex mode when you remapped. IP: Logged |

OK Michael i just went back and tried remapping from the surface menu in vertex mode without merging the objects and that worked as well. Wow the things ive learned today ThanksIP: Logged |

Just a sidenote, I think the F4F could be easily transformed into a Brewster model 239 Buffalo? With finnish markings of course Camo

Ay carumba, that landing gear configuration looks like it's going to be challenging!Looks great so far, though! IP: Logged |

What the hell is that,an Su-2 spy plane? Hack a few yards off that wing. Is Gary Powers around here somewhere?IP: Logged |

Heya,Falck, Glad you got it figured out. I too went and tried to it in vertex mode. It seemed to work fine. I have always worked in object mode. Like you said you learn something new everyday Btw I still had to merge the objects to get it work. No biggie, I'll just stick to working object mode. ------------------ Zoycite {GS} GUNSLINGERS visit The War Paint Factory IP: Logged |

Prop, Sometimes FOV settings can really distort things. Looking at just the receding wing, the length of the wings seems reasonable. If they are extended, it's not by much. The length of the F4F-4 is roughly 2/3 the wingspan. IP: Logged |

I know it looks funny but i think its just because the canopy isnt there yet. With the canopy it will look a lot stockier. The wingspan is 38' and the length is 28.75' Beleive me Ive checked and rechecked the dimensions a lot IP: Logged |
