Ok, I am SOOOOOOO frustrated with this crap I'm about to put my fist through my monitor.

I am trying to put cannons on the A36a Apache instead of the guns (Calling it the A36-b so I can have both planes in the game)
anyway I am doing it the exact same way I put the cannons on the Spit Mk Vc (Which turned out fine) but I can't get it to work on the Apache.

Here is what I did:
Opened OPS,
selected the MG's, and deleted them,
selected wing and
copy and paste cannons from the spit Mk IX
Lined them up on the wings
checked the property files
saved it
Exit OPS

Open loadout,
Modified that and saved

Made a simple mission to test it

Fire up FSDOE, load mission,
Plane is there, rocket loadout is there,
Cannons are not, no barrels sticking out of wings, no ammo, nothing.

Ok, try again,

I did as above except this time I didn't delete the MG's (Seem to remember someone saying not to delete guns or that you didn't have to or something to that effect)
just added the cannons to the wings.

They did work when I didn't delete the guns, however the cannons fired from the regular MG holes in the wings, the barrels that I copied and pasted didn't show up.

Any Ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
I had the Spit Mk Vc working great, can't seem to get this to work though.

I've gotten so frustrated, (Ive been trying to get this to work for the past 3 days)
I'm almost ready to give up on this game and go play something else, but no other game give me the sense of flight or the thrill of dogfighting like this one does.

PLEASE, HELP!!!!!

The gun "blasts" are separate objects. Look under the wing in OPS. You'll see "gunsleft" or something, which is the physical gun tubes. You'll also see "gun1," "gun2," etc, which are the "muzzle flash" parts. You can click on one and it will appear as an arrow on the 3D screen. Just move it to where the new guns are and you're set.

As for changing from gun to cannon, I'm not sure, but the gun barrels from the MG are mostly "submerged" in the wing. Your cannons may BE there but are hidden by the wing. Try to click on the parts list and see if you can see them inside the wing. You might have to set one of the "long-distance-view" wing LODs to "active" to make them flat so you can see if anything is hidden there.

Also, not sure here, but the "loadout.ppf" file in the plane folder determines what the airplane carries I think. It may have to be edited to actually give you cannon ammo instead of MG. Not real sure, since I haven't tried to play with loadouts yet, but the Spit's .ppf file is definitely different from the A-36's.

And lastly (not being condescending here, forget to do this myself all the time) make sure the file you're working on in OPS is the one that's actually being used in the game. I don't directly edit the game .sm file myself--I work on a copy and sometimes I forget to paste it back into the sim It's also possible to access the WRONG A-36 file from the menu, so that the old one without cannons shows up instead of the new one, but I'm assuming you know what you're doing re: inserting new plane into sim.

Apologies if this stuff was obvious stuff you already tried...

I've reworked Razor's A36 and the P-51B with new fuselages, Malcolm hood (RAF Mustang III)and new paint jobs (no cannons tho). I'll post em up when I get the missions, GUI and zipfiles all put together right.

Sabre66,

Don't suffer! Ask here - we can help!

Make sure that the gun list is correct- the gun names are very important - I think they may even follow a convention like gunX or something. That is according to the OpenPlane Doc but I think I have seen guns that work that don't follow this convention. The gun names need to match the load.ppf file I believe. The pilot has the gun list if I am not mistaken.

If you can't get anywhere, send me the plane as it stands - I would be happy to look at it for you: sean@schoolmusic.com

Hope you get this working! It can be frustrating - I lost an hours worth of 3D work in AC3D by clicking one wrong key!
