The most major parts are finished but I dont know how to make the canopy. In the tech-section IŽve read that I had to make a hole in the fuselage - is this hole the cabin ? Should I hollow out the fuse ? Did the hole need the correct size? Need your tips !! Meanwhile doin the prop and stuff ! Thanks again! BTW - I read some topics about modelling and I realize that I do it the russian way - all from scratch (and I never heard from nurbs and such things) - thats why the crossections of my wings are not correct (but you canŽt see this in the game...) ok. even thought you shouldn't have made the cockpit area yet. you can still pull it off with out any big problems. in the image below you can see the area i have high lighted. assuming your doing this in AC3D. you need to select the parts and click vertice at the top and click remove surface. This sill remove the poly's for that area and will open your plane so the cockpit will go right in there. building the glass for the cockpit is the hardest part so good luck. In the last hours I build up the canopy parts (and do some headbanging): thanks razer for the fast tip - but how to modell things is not really my problem - When I fligh in FSSDOE and sitting in the cabin - do I sit inside of my 3D-Model and look out of it (and had to build up all the amatures and lever and stuff) or are this 2 different things ? ..at this time I only cutted a hole in the fuselage - but I dont know is this right or not ??? Your always sitting in the model. It's just that things in the cokcpit need more detail then things outside. If i was you. i'd use a plane with a seperate cockpit SM file to pake you plane. That way you can load it in AC3D and cut out the glass, and just use the rest. Cockpits are the most tricky thing to make. good luck and the model is really looking good. Oh, could i ask a favor? could you smooth the plane so i can see what it looks like? the tail seems alittle blocky right now. select the whole model, Click object (i think) Click optimize Vertices. then click smooth at the bottom of the screen. It seems to be a hard job to make a new plane ! Thanks a lot for your message - now I know what to do (hope I know it). How much polys are correct for cockpit (the plane itself got 418 polys without gear and such things) or for a plane ?OK here is the smoothed version: ...looks a bit strange for me... Do you think something is wrong? I dont work with AC3D (only to compare the look of the plane with the others..) so I dont know if this is normal. I also try to stay under 600 polys... And btw your B-25 is absolutely great !! How long did you worked on it ? IP: Logged |

The B25 has about 4 Man hours in the Model. the next model will look way better since now i have scale plans of the B25 to work from. it does look a little odd. might wont to work on the rounding on the wings and tail. best way to do that is to use a few more poly's like this. Something close to the bottom two would work the best. Maybe the middle one would get you the best results with poly count and look.

Laika, looks great! Are you planning on modelling the intakes/outlets and other extraneous cowling bits around the engine? Also, I took another look at my I-16 poster and noticed that the ones I have a picture of are called I-16 "Ishak". For soviet aircraft does this indicate a different version? Thanks, Werner ------------------ Do you support SDOE online? Email Werner to be listed in SDOE's online phonebook today! IP: Logged |

Hi guys !The last 2 days I was working some things out and didnŽt got the time to do rata-related stuff. Razer - I use the old version of 3D studio (R4) for Msdos and I build the wings like the middle one in your sketch (side view?). I also looked at the models in FS and they seem to be very jagged too. Werner - intakes/outlets - I dont know at this time - first I will model the prop, gear and the cockpit and look at the polycount - weŽll see. "Ishak" is just the russian name of the I-16 and "Rata" is the western name for it (I think - I will look for more infos an that)

In regards to the name of the I-16, "Ishak" was the official designation in the Russian Air Force. "Rata", which obviously means rat, was the pilot's nickname for it. There was also another nickname for it, meaning Fly.In case anyone was wondering (you probably weren't, though), I got this info from my 1941 copy of Jane's All the World's Aircraft. I just like to brag about my books. IP: Logged |
