My SE5a is doing exactly what the old 109 used to do: It handles on the ground as if it were on ice! As soon as you start moving, the plane starts a tight circle! The rudder can over-power this turn only at VERY slow speeds - then all hope is lost. This was fixed on the 109, what was the problem? Any other ideas what is causing this? I do have a hidden steerable tailwheel like the Fokker - but maybe it is messed up... Thanks much! ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE! IP: Logged |

sv: here is a little checklist that I have written to help me mess with the tires: 1) be sure the wheel is in the center of the tail if it is a tail wheel 2) be surethe wheel is facing dead straight 3) be sure the contact point is dead center of the tire.any one of those and it can make the plane handle very crazy...If you want since your looking at the hook I can look at your tire =). take'd easy now FarmerJoe IP: Logged |

SvOne thing you could try doing is changing via Open Plane the propeller to a 4 bladed one. It might not fix all the problems but it certainly helps during the takeoff. I actually found this trick out by mistake when I pasted the four bladed propeller fom the MKIX on to the Spit MK V. The next time I tried it cured all the ground handling problems during take off (caused by lack of acceleration) and it totally transformed it's perfomance! I also did it on the Lanc and it actually gets airborne now without running out of runway! I hope this helps. Cheers Bradburger

SV, I seem to remember something being said about adjusting the friction of the tires with the runway to make the planes handle better.IP: Logged |

Bradburger: If he were to make the propellor blades different, then he wouldn't be historically correct though =p but...if the 3 bladed prop works better sv might wanna take a look at the prop balance...Hehe that'll be fun.take'd easy now FarmerJoe IP: Logged |

As to historical accuracy, to my knowledge some variants of the SE5 did have a four bladed prop.In the case of the planes I mentioned, you still keep the 3 bladed graphic but just change the prop to 4 a blader in Open Plane. If it means that it flies more like it should then I'm happy. I don't know what the problen is with having a 3 bladed prop on the Spit V and Lanc that affects their performence. I Guess somebody has the answer. All I can say is that with this little adjustment I can actually get them off the ground in one piece and enjoy flying them. Cheers Bradburger

I don't know anything about openplane but I tend to believe that the main wheels on the SE5a don't spin as they should. Every time I try to land it it's like landing with breaks on or something. The plane stops and turns ass up with the nose down in the ground. Just a thought...Cheers! IP: Logged |
