I am looking to buy a paint program. Which one should I get? I can buy Paint Shop Pro 5 off of Ebay for $40. Is that one good enough?

I have Paint Shop pro 6.02 (Paint shop Pro 5 with the free upgrade patch)

and also Photoshop 5.0 lite Both are super programs, support layering, texturing, lots of goodies.

You can download the demo (Paint Shop Pro) off Cnet.com and try it out, it's fully functional for a full 60 days.

Paint Shop Pro 5 is good enough. Pretty sure it supports layers...you need layers! I use PhotoShop Deluxe 2.0. It seems to do ok.

If you want a free program that does everything the PS pro does, check out GIMP.
A free and fully functional bit of freeware, also loads of plugins.

I use Adobe, Corel and Gimp. Each have different features I enjoy.

Everything I have done is with Paintshop Pro 5 and the demo of 6.

Sabre66 where did you get teh free upgrade for PSP 5? I;ve checked their site out and the only upgrades are either to 5.03 or a stand-alone demo version of 6.01.

Hi Razor,

I use the Gimp, too. Here is a direct link to the site for the windows-version: http://user.sgic.fi/~tml/gimp/win32/
I'd go for the 19990828 build, it was quite stable.

Zoy,

you're welcome :-). Be sure to check the new version that's just out (991218). It's running more stable than the previous versions, and it has more plugins.
