I was wondering about this and theorectically(Spelling???) I think this can be done.

The FW-190's used to add 2 - 30mm cannons on wing pods for ground attack and bomber interception.
The BF-109's used to add 2 - 20mm cannons on wing pods for the same thing.

Can we not incorperate this into FSDOE??
Seems to me all we would have to do is make the models for the wing pods put them in the same folder as the bombs and rockets, and modify the loadout files to include this option. Possible Yes????

Doesn't the loadout.ppf file tell the game to call up the bombs/rockets models/lods when thay are selected in the laodout options of the mission editor? If so, I don't see why this wouldn't work. And I think this would be a great (and historically accurate) addtion to SDOE.

Come on people, Let me know what you think?

Spanky here...

That would be great man. The hurricain carried 2 40mm pods now thats fire power. I don't think you can do it cause openplane won't see the extra loadout option. Drop tanks and gun pods need to be added.

You should be able to make a plane with the pod on it and just have it load in the mission as that plane

such as "BF109g7 gun pod" not too much work and a worth addition for some ground pounding missions. Its an extra plane but i don't see why thats a big problem.

What do you think guys?

Spanky,
Why wouldn't OP see the extra Loadout option?
I figure as long as its in the .ppf file and there are lods for it. I remember awhile back Falk(I think that was his name??) made modified loadouts that had extra options beyond what the normal loadouts were.

I think It May be worth a try, but if it don't work, yea the next best thing would be to make a new plane with the pods on them.

Ok that sounds cool, i don't know enough about the loadout file. Would we need to adjust the keyboard file like we did for the zero?

Anyone going to do this?

It can be easily done. Fiddle with the original Spitfire(Vb) loadout and totally remove the lines refering to the wing cannon. Notice the stubs will dissappear! Ahhhhh....

Sabre, you've hit the answer. As long as an ordnance point doesn't have any ammo, it won't appear when the plane is loaded.

You can easily set up the loadout file to include the extra pods that are needed for different missions.

The wing pods had adverse impact on the handling and top speed of the plane. Can you attach airfoils to the pods to reproduce the drag?

Sure you can TS. The Bombs already in FS have airfoild that hinder the performance of the aircraft.

But Jag, didn't you have a problem with this? Wasn't this why the drop tanks never got released?
