Bryan,

I'm trying an experiment with the German Pilot where as I have replaced his body with a headless armless one. I want to add Obj files of his head and each arm and eventually apply dofs to them as to animate him. I have the body in place but how can I "add" to this sm? Been trying to all morning with no luck. I tried to add models in AC3D as well but the prog would crash upon exporting it to an ASC format.

Thanks

Pete,

The easiest way to add a new model to the plane is to just copy some small item from the plane and paste it in under the object you want to be the future parent. Then make sure you remove the properties that are no longer needed. The name of the new object will be something like oldObject1. Go into the names tab and rename it to whatever you want. You don't need to do this step, but it sure makes things easier! You will need to reload the sm file to see the name change take effect in the models window.

Now simply import your new LOD mesh over the newly created model. Or use Hippie's extractor to extract the new SM file, delete the new LOD file, export your new mesh from AC3D with the name of the LOD you wish to replace, and then rebuild the SM file.

Also be sure to remove any low detail LODS that came with it - or replace them with your new model's low detail LODS. Do be sure to check any related inertia objects as well.

There may be other ways, but this works fast and is easy.

Unfortunitly the model add thing is a bit unstable, it was only really a by-product os the file-reference insert thing.

But SV is right, the copy and paste thing is probably the best way.

Ok, I have a pilot in a plane and he has a separate head lod. I added a dof to it and called it (dofID 'steer). I can't for the life of me get the guys head to turn in any way. Any ideas? Maybe since the dof property is on a pilot that has a crew property, I'm thinking it may never be able to work. I hope someone can prove me wrong.
