Question on adding the correct horsepower for the Spit Mk III.

This entry below is in the .asc file:

Merline III engine (obSSO)
(obProto 'CEngine)
(engTarget 'prop)
(engMaxHP 1030,3000)
(engSFC 180)
(engFuelSource 'Spitfire1a)
(engGearRatio 2.1)
(phyLBS 1400)

Now I assume "engMaxHP 1030,3000" is the HP spec on the engine, and the 1030 is the HP of the merlin III, what is the 3000 after it stand for?
Also the Spit Mk III had the New Merlin XX engine which generated 1240 HP, would I just replace the "1030" with "1240" ??

And also I was wondering If after I'm finished would someone care to volunteer to do the FM for it??

The Spit Mk III was the first of the spitfires to have what they called the "Universal Wing", which was clipped down to 32ft 7in from the original 36ft 10in, which resulted in a greatly improved rate of roll.

Does anyone have any armament specs on the Mk III? My book doesn't list any so I may have to go with Mk1a specs until I get a book that does. (Getting one for Christmas, but I want to finish this before then)

Sabre, 1030 is the horsepower so if you change it to 1240 that will be the new hp.

The 3000 is the engine RPM.

Good luck.

This might seem like a stupid question, but WHY are you modelling the Spitfire MkIII?!

The number of Spitfire MkIII made was 1. They never put the design into production as the Merlin XX engine was complex to produce and needed by the Hurricane if it was to remain a competitive fighter aircraft. The Merlin 45 was developed by removing the low-altitude blower from the Merlin XX design, and fitted to MkII airframes created the MkV.

Being a prototype, the MkIII had no armament.

Juzz,

Actually, I have been contimplating that myself. I wanted to make something "easy" since this is my first project with openplane, also the Mk III introduced a new wing design called the "Universal Wing", which provided a chioce of armament to suit operational conditions, ie. 4 - .303 MG's & 2 - 20mm Cannons, 8 - .303 MG's, or 4 - 20mm Cannons. (The later of which I am working on)

Also, the "Universal Wing" was clipped down to 32 ft 7 in, from the original 36 ft 10 in, which resulted in a greatly improved rate of roll.

However, after some further research I found that the Spitfire Mk Vc also incorperated the "Universal Wing" and other enhancements form the Mk III, so I will Probably do the Mk Vc instead, since we want to do historically accurate aircraft. And for the record 3 Mk III's were made, the third of which never left the ground before the Mark number was cancelled. (At least according to the reference material I have, it could be wrong)

Also The Mk V Spit's actually used 5 different engines in them: Merlin 45, Merlin 46, Merlin 50 ,Merlin 50A and the Merlin 55.
