How do I log in there to post a message? Does it use the same name and password stuff as this BBS?

Also, I plan to make a few Soviet fighters (Yak1, La-5N, perhaps I-16) - is anyone interested in helping out? I can build the models, but I need help with absolutely everything else !

JG5Jerry, Zoycite and I were working on a Yak 3. We started with a Spit and changed the FM and DM but had trouble with the 3D Model and cockpit. If you want I can e-mail a copy to you. I too would like to see some Soviet fighters in the game (and I know Zoy would).

Jerry,

Welcome. The guys here should see your artwork. You should put them up at your site.

Raider - I was planning to start the model from scratch and build upon the one I've already got (as a 3DS Max file). Then again, I would like to see your version - if you could mail ne it in Max or DXF format, that'd be cool, thanks.
Hi Mposis ! I hope to put some of my art on my website soon - in the mean time, it's due to feature in an article at hyperscale.com soon.

Hi Jerry, nice to see you here

I'll again take the liberty of posting the Yak-9 pic you sent me months ago:

I'd really really really like to see that through my gunsight one day!

Hi and Cheers! Camo.
The models in this pic probably have too many polys, and have no smoothing applied. How does SDOE handle smoothing groups, or hardware smoothing in-game? Anyone know?

If you're using Max, you won't need to apply smoothing. As long as your vertices are welded, SDOE will smooth your model.

Thanks JT. I still need info on how to get 3ds Max models right for FSDOE, and some volunteers to handle the flight model and other techie stuff.

Heya,

Some Soviet stuff would be great! Here is a pic of the Spit to Yakolev Yak-3. This was the first version. Raider has changed the gear and gun locations on later version, but this is the only pic I had handy.

BTW, Zoycite painted this

I have started learning how to model since then and Raider and myself hope to complete the Yak-3.

Jerry,
I havnt seen your art, but if you'd like some help doing the skins I would be more than happy to do so.

Jerry,

Do you know that JT is Woodpanel? He is the 3D Max expert of SDOE.

I forgot to mention... Eventhough it's not necessary, it is a good idea to smooth your model in Max. Smoothing will reveal any seams or cracks between polys that may not be apparent if your model is faceted looking.

Actually you do need to smooth the stuff in max to get it smooth in SDOE. SDOE doesn't automatically smooth, it just uses the Vertex normals you supply to it.

These vertex normals are generated in a OBJ file by the OBJ2MAX plugin if you tell it to, and this is based on how you smoothed it in MAX.

The smoothing groups don't really matter, azs long as vertex normals are written OK

JT - what is your P-47 model based on? Is it a completely new mesh or built up from, say, the Fw190? Can I not compeletly make a new plane model from scratch?

Speakin of, whats a good number of poly's to shoot for when doing the body sans gear/cockpit, etc? How many poly's are reasonable for the whole thing all in?
