Ok, I found the problem and got the cockpit working. The spit V I was wouldn't load the spitpit.sm for some reason, don't know what the problem was there.

So I decided to use the spit mk 1a for a base instead, (besides the mk 1a had a closer performence envelope to the mk III than the mk V) I deleted the machine guns and added the cannons in the gunlist.
(Hope I did it right, haven't had a chance to test it yet)...anyway....

How do I import the LODS for the cannons to add to the wings?? The window asks for LOD files but I don't have any, do I have to use the extractor and get them from the mk V or the mk IX??

Also in the .asc file when changing references "spitfire" appears in some of the lists such as in the left gear and right gear and engine, etc. do these also have to be changed aka "Spitfire III"???(This may have also been one of my mistakes)

And also in the toolbar under object, there is an item "Insert Model" which inside contains "Model' and "File Reference". What are these for??

Well that is all the questions I have for now, but I'm sure I'll have more.

Thanks for all your help, I'll get this openplane stuff yet.

Sabre in order to import the lods, or object files:

Lod File Import
1) extract the .sm file with hippie's extractor that you want to take the LODs from.
2) go into OPStudio then click the modelname you wish to have the lod for.
3) go to import mesh and use the lod.ffp to import your lod file.
Note: Be sure that the gun already has a lod and you are replacing that lod, so don't delete it, just replace it otherwise OPS may crash.

OBJ File Import
1) Select the model you wish to add the lod for.
2) Select import mesh from the menu and use the obj.ffp to import your .obj file
3) after you have saved it then exited then go back to dos and extract the .sm file you just added your new lods to.
3) use fsd2lod.exe from hippie to convert the lod file you just added to a "good lod"
4) move the (NULL)###.lod to the directory where you have extracted your current.sm file. Rename the .lod file accordingly.
5) issue command in the directory where you extracted your .sm file
"C:>builder a spit.sm"

Then you have completed =)

take'd easy now
