I put a question in the Tech Help part but I believe that the polygons you want to be glass have to have to be untextured and have a material type of "glass" for them to be transparent. I don't think the polygon colour alpha value has much effect but I wouldn't hurt to do both. Bryan

This is not to hard:1. Create a LOD with the glass in it. The glass DOES need to have a texture. My SE5a Version 7 has a glass windshield LOD that has a non-glass trim, so you can mix glass v.metal in the same LOD fine - just assign the relevant surfaces to use the glass texture you will make. 2. Creat a texture for the glass - you must use a graphics program that supports alpha chanels such as Adobe PhotoShop. Create a new file, then add a new chanel - this will be the alpha chanel. Fill this chanel with black, or dark grey. Black = transparent. The lighter you make the black, the more opaque the glass will be. Now go to the RGB chanel and paint the image a dark color - I see most guys use a dark blue - I have no idea why. You can also put white in the RGB channel to create reflections or hazy-glass near the edge where the glass meets the metal. Can anyone help me with how to paint the RGB or alpha chanel to get certain effects? 3. Insert this texture into the ASC file by entering a new name for it and a new texture record. Now you must change the "flags" field of the texture record. It needs to be 802223, not 802243 like usual. I think this makes tells the texture to use the alpha chanel. Look at the pic below: For more info on how to add a new texture to your plane, visit: http://www.schoolmusic.com/chickencoop/se5a/v4/p3.htm Hope this helps...

> Can anyone help me with how to paint the RGB or alpha chanel to get certain effects? It's pretty easy in Photoshop. If you can, try to get a copy of that. Aside from that, here are some simple rules I follow... Reflections on glass- If you were to look at real glass, you would notice that the only colors you can see reflected in glass are the light colors. Dark colors appear as transparent. To get this effect in SDOE, use a solid, dark grey tone in the alpha channel. The lighter the tone, the more visible your reflections will be. I would say, try to keep it subtle. Anyway, draw all your reflections in the RGB channel. If you want to simulate dirt or oil on the glass, then you will need to draw in the alha channel as well as the RGB channel. Actually, what you should do is copy what you have in the RGB channel and paste it to the alpha channel. Whatever you paste from the RGB channel will be perfectly greyscaled in the alpha channel. You may want to adjust the lightness or contrast in the alpha channel, though. IP: Logged |

This info is great! Just what I needed as well Thanks guys. One quick question though, for model distance, since you are sitting in the cockpit very near to the glass, should the modeldist be set to zero? One more... this covers the inside of the cockpit looking out, but what about the other way? Same setup, but just use a different color in the alpha channel to simulate tinted glass? (man I love this stuff... thanks) Can't wait to show you what I'm working on, but it won't be for a while.
