Bryan, I think I mentioned this a long time ago but wanted to see if it was in your plan for OPS or not. I've seen a program for Flight Sim 98/2000 that lets you animate parts and with it's options you can animate each part in realtime individually, or animate all animated parts at the same time. The first time I saw it I was so amazed. It allowed me to model the complex extension and retraction of the C-5 Galaxy's landing gear and looked pretty neat. But I realized after reading about Sv's gun on his SE5 that I could do it MUCH BETTER with OpenPlane! If you include this option or a variation of it, it'd be just incredible. Food for thought IP: Logged |

I've done this sort of thing before, but not to the level of detail required for OpenPlanes DOF's. Simply moving a part on a axis is one thing but moving several parts with timing constraints etc, that you might find in a multilinked gear assembly, as it would look in SDOE is another.Having said that, I would really like to do this, and since I've sorted out branching and merging with CVS (a version control system) I can have a crack at it now without having a half assed version of it bugging up the main software.

Great! Well, I just did a test on one of the planes that came with SDOE. I simulated the C-5's bogie (6 wheels on a truck is what it's called), and had this pause for .5 sec, rotate 90 degrees inboard, pause for .5 sec, and then rotate up towards the fuselage. It works beautifully! Only bad part is the timing when it's extending. The gear starts to come down but then the tire(bogie) immediately starts rotating towards forward rolling, when instead it needs to wait till the gear is all the way down and locked, THEN rotate forwards. I'm still working on it.A dream of mine (being the C-5 nut/freak that I am) is to have a C-5 with fully working gear (shocks, extension/retraction) and even KNEELING! This is what we do to lower the entire plane to allow for easier onloads. I also plan on having a WORKING raising visor (the entire nose goes up around 80 degs), and then have the ramp fold down and be ready to take on cargo! And if I get around to it, working rear cargo doors and ramp as well. I know I can do it but it'll take some time. The cockpit shouldn't be too hard also. I know it very well and have lots of pics. I KNOW this plane doesn't conform to SDOE (WWII) times but I want to do it to show the power of OpenPlane (it'll be a showcase of sorts). A big thanks to Bryan for this great and wonderful OPS program and also Sv's tutorial on DOF's. I really know how these things work completely now. Guys, I've got three separate DOF's going in this test gear setup and it's working as it should (except when reversed, ie extending the timings are off), but it's still VERY neat.OpenPlane is so cool. You can do basically anything you want IP: Logged |

Thanks - very neat info! The p47 has a complex gear movement (so they could fit that 4th 50 in), and its good to know I don't have to spudge.IP: Logged |

Go for it pete! I would love to see it in FS. The Huey isn't a WWII aircraft. But everyone loved it (except KOPPER!! hehehe), so don't let that stop you......... 1 thing though, you should make the cargo bay floor and the ramps with a no clipping property (like the deck of the carrier) so we could drive the funky trucks in! ------------------ Cheers! I was just thinking about what Jaguar said about driving trucks in the plane. It is not real, but could you have the wings on a fighter fold up and then drive the plane into the C-5, through the front, lined up with the tail ramp? In flight, you could open the back cargo door and have the figher roll out of the back and unfold it's wings when it gets out, to take on enemy fighers. I know it is not real, but it would be cool.Just a thought, James "Razor747" Smith IP: Logged |

LOL! Finally, another fan of Interceptor!.... For those of you who haven't seen it, there's this scene in the movie where this C-5 is flying along with 2 F-117As in the cargo compartment. Of course badguys get on board and take over the plane. They fuel up the two F117As and the lead badguy gets in the one closest to the rear ramp (which is painted in Camo colors). They open the ramp and push the F117A out. Then while falling, he engages the swing wings and pulls out of the fall. Meanwhile his side kick gets killed by the good guy and the good guy takes the black colored F-117A out of the C-5. Just as he falls out, the badguy launches his AiM-9 Sidewinder destroying the C-5 (Sorry pete ) but the lady C-5 pilot made it out ok . anyways, the good guy kills the bad guy with a Maverick that the bad guy fired (long story), and landed his plane beside the chick on the desert floor.... THE END!Now How's that for a super realistic story?! So, if your in the mood.. rent Interceptor! It will keep you on the edge of your couch for a whole 2 seconds! LOL ------------------ Cheers! I've been thinking of the same stuff, dropping troops and equipment out. Should be interesting work Jag, I've seen it. It's pure CRAP!! The most unrealistic C-5 / military ops EVER! Even that KC-10 boom thing, oh my god! At one point a few people crawl down the INSIDE of a KC-10 boom into the C-5! That thing is only about 8 inches in diameter!! Also at another point they were saying something like "What's our altitude" and they zoom in on the pitch trim gauge where the guy read's it from. MAN! That got to me. Hehe, it was humorous to see how bad a job they did. But yes, the F-117 being drop/launched out the back of the cargo compartment, SURE that'll happen! (NOT!) Guys go rent the video for a good laugh at least.
